Increased serum visfatin, fetuin-A, and PTX3 levels, and the presence of positive correlation between visfatin, fetuin-A, and PASI score, probably reflect the inflammatory state and IR seen in psoriasis.
Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) is a serious and potentially life-threatening disease. Vanishing bile duct syndrome (VBDS) is a rare cause of progressive cholestasis. Both syndromes are mostly related with drugs. We report a case of a patient with ciprofloxacin-induced SJS and acute onset of VBDS, and reviewed the related literature. It is the first case of ciprofloxacin-induced VBDS successfully treated with tacrolimus. This case reminds physicians of the importance of drug reactions, their severity, techniques for diagnosis and methods of management.
Nicolau syndrome is rare cutaneous adverse reaction following injection of various drugs. The disease has been associated with almost all classes of medications, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, local anesthetics, corticosteroids, antibiotics, vitamin B complexes, antihistamines, and vaccines. The most severe cases of this complication occur after injection of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Subcutaneous injection is an important factor in the pathogenesis of the syndrome. We report a case of Nicolau syndrome resulting from intramuscular injection of diclofenac and discuss some precautions to prevent this complication.
Nevoid hyperkeratosis of the nipple and areola is a rare dermatosis with unknown etiology, (Perez-Izquierdo JM, Vilata JJ, Sanchez JL, et al. Retinoic acid treatment of nipple hyperkeratosis. Arch Dermatol 1990;126:687-688). Only 40 cases have been reported until 1997 (Alpsoy E, Yilmaz E, Aykol A. Hyperkeratosis of the nipple: report of two cases. J Dermatol 1997;24:43-45). The disease has a benign course and may only be a cosmetic problem. Different modalities have been used in the treatment of NHNA. In our case treatment with topical retinoic acid induced an acceptable response.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
