O cirurgião dentista está potencialmente exposto à transmissão vertical e horizontal de várias doenças contagiosas, em especial a hepatite viral, por meio de contato com sangue, mucosa e secreções bucais de pacientes, muitos dos quais podem estar assintomáticos. Pesquisa que envolveu 154 estudantes de Odontologia da Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB), com o objetivo de verificar a prevalência presumível de hepatites virais e seu perfil de proteção, constatou que, dos 154 estudantes entrevistados, 131 deles (85,1%) afirmaram não ter tido hepatite, enquanto 21 (13,6%) afirmaram ter tido hepatite, sendo que 2 estudantes não se lembravam se tiveram ou não hepatite. Quanto à cobertura vacinal, 85 (55,2%) entrevistados disseram ter tomado vacina e 37 (24%) afirmaram não ter tomado vacina. Dentre aqueles que foram vacinados, 37 (43,5%) disseram ter tomado as três doses. A conscientização do profissional para a ocorrência do risco de transmissão de doenças, desde o período de formação acadêmica, oferece maior segurança não só a ele, mas também a seus pacientes e familiares.
ResumoA Síndrome de Goldenhar é uma condição rara, geralmente de ocorrência esporádica, caracterizada por microssomia hemifacial, dermóide epibulbar, más formações do pavilhão auditivo e anomalias vertebrais. Existem também relatos de associações da síndrome com outras condições sistêmicas. Os autores relatam um caso de Síndrome de Goldenhar em paciente do sexo feminino, 28 anos, sem antecedentes familiares, que apresentava microssomia hemifacial, o que comprometia os músculos da mastigação, a expressão facial e os ossos da face (mandíbula, maxila e zigomático) do lado esquerdo, presença de broto auricular, história médica de dermóide epibulbar e fissura lateral de face, ipsilateralmente. Na avaliação sistêmica, foram encontrados ectopia do rim esquerdo e discreto espessamento dos folhetos mitrais, com refluxo mitral de grau leve.Palavras-chave: Síndrome de Goldenhar; displasia óculo-aurículo-vertebral; defeitos congênitos.
