WILD PLUM FRUIT CHARACTERIZATION (Ximenia americana L.)ABSTRACT -The Brazilian Caatinga vegetation presents a large variety of vegetal species. However, the potentiality of these species as an important source of nutrients for the human diet is still not so known. Among these species, there is the wild plum (Ximenia americana L.). The present work aimed to characterize the fruits of the wild plum in two ripening stages. The fruits were harvested in the Brazilian Caatinga vegetation next to the Mossoró-RN city, in two ripening stages, green (green rind) and ripe (yellow rind), being 90 fruits for each stage. For the fruit characterization, the following analyses were done: fresh mass, longitudinal and transversal lengths, pulp yield, vitamin C, soluble solids (SS), titritable acidity (TA), pH and ratio SS/TA. The completely randomized design was used with two treatments and six replications of 15 fruits for each part. The wild plum fruit has a round shape, succulent and presents only seed of almond type. Considering the pulp, coloration change occurs, changing from green to yellow color, as the fruit becomes ripe. This fruit is considered rich vitamin C source that can naturally be found in the Brazilian northeastern region, as well as a fruit with high contents of soluble solid and acidity.
O presente trabalho propôs-se a avaliar a vida útil pós-colheita do mamão híbrido UENF/ Caliman 01 cultivado no Estado do Rio Grande do Norte. POSTHARVEST SHELF LIFE OF PAPAYA UENF/CALIMAN 01 PRODUCED IN RIO GRANDE DO NORTEABSTRACT -A new papaya hybrid was developed in Brazil obtained by breeding with the crossing of progenitors from Solo x Formosa groups. Recently, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, this hybrid was introduced by the farmers in their orchards. However, the studies concerning to the conservation potential of these fruits was limited to the tests accomplished in commercial farms. This work purpose was to evaluate the hybrid UENF/Caliman shelf life produced in the state of Rio Grande Norte. Fruit were harvested at physiological maturity, packaged and transported to the Semi-arid Federal Rural University laboratory, in Mossoró City, state of Rio Grande do Norte . Fruits were stored at 25 °C (±2) and 55 % (± 5) of relative humidity for 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 days. The experiment was completely randomized with 6 treatments. Were evaluated the variables: mass loss, external appearance, firmness, pulp color, titratable acidity, pH, soluble solids and total soluble sugars. The hybrid presents phenotypic characteristics of the 'Formosa' papaya group, with elongated fruits, 1,28 kg of medium mass, 2,74 cm of pulp thickness, red coloration of the pulp, high content of soluble solids (13,65%) and sugars (10,53%). The quality variables analyzed limited at postharvest shelf life of the...

AbstractThe present study aimed to evaluate postharvest technologies and quality of fruits produced on noble melons exporting farms located in the Agricultural Pole Mossoró-Assu, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. Gália 'Solar King' , Cantalaupe 'Torreon' , Charentais ' Aura Prince' , and Orange Flesh ' AF-1749' melons were analyzed regarding the following quality aspects: loss of weight, internal and external appearance, firmness, titulable acidity, pH, soluble solids, and sugars. The fruits were evaluated on the 0, 7 th , 14 th , 21 th , and 28 th day of storage refrigeration. The period of transport was simulated by storing the fruits under the same conditions of temperature and relative humidity of transport. It was concluded that the melons exporting farms use high level postharvest technological to maintain the fruit quality of these melon cultivare which present low postharvest resistance. However, it was noted by the high firmness and low of soluble solid values that the fruits are harvested when still immature. During the evaluation of external and internal appearance, it was observed that on the 28 th day the fruits could still be commercialized although reaching the acceptance limit due to some flaws such as spots, depressions, and damage which can be reduced with a more appropriate fruit handling. Keywords: Cucumis melo; storage; external market; postharvest shelf life.
