The term ‘vernacular’ and ‘traditional’ in architecture context actually has a root meaning which is almost the same; both have the same meaning that can be attached to one form of architecture work which is oriented on locality aspects and historiy of its existence. However, how can we distinguish the two terms? One way to find it out is to do a case study on two traditional architecture buildings: Balinese buildings and Minangkabau buildings taken as the sample study. In general, both building have two criteria: culture philosophy and adaptative modernism. Through descriptive analytical methods, the two building types were analyzed to acquire the definition of the building shapes which can be classified whether they belong to vernacular or traditional. The results show that vernacular architecture is a form of original work which is specified with the content and a very strong local and contextual philosophy proper to its time, while the traditional architectural building is a vernacular masterpiece recognized by acclamation and hereditary within a very long time.
Building, which consists of many building materials arranged in following the designer’s patter, could be stood and built in many scale, time and place. Development of the shape in building design has been changed from time to time as in time development and human ability that keeps increasing. Many buildings came from human civilization. Knowledge, social community and environment circumstances and also building material sources have huge role in developing building shapes. How far the existance of the building, it becomes retrieval benchmark in human civilization through building material usage approach in each age.
Humans have tendency to relate to nature. This is a human trait inherited from generation to generation. Where we can feel happy, interested or amazed by the beauty of nature. The rapid development and technological advances make our relationship with nature farther away. As a result, we become indifferent to the environment around us, the degeneration of ecosystems, and cause mental disorders and stress. Stress and stress disorders are problems that are often experienced by office workers in big cities like Jakarta. There are 60.8% of office workers experiencing depression and stress. One factor causing stress is the work environment, which is a dense urban area. Therefore, rebuilding our relationship with nature becomes more important in the field of conservation. The concept of biophilic design is a design approach based on biophilia aspects which aims to produce coworking spaces that can reduce stress and provide mental and physical healing to its users.
One of the challenges for educators in the future is that educators are faced with students with high technological mastery abilities. Advances in the business and entertainment sectors drive the evolution of computer equipment with increasingly sophisticated technology that can make things easier. The development of equipment that supports virtual reality technology is also increasingly modern and realistic, so that the use and the utilization of virtual reality technology can also be widened in various disciplines. Researchers and educators also start competing to explore their potential, develop pedagogical strategies, create teaching materials, and build technology-based and educational infrastructure to find learning systems that are more likely by students and can present high-quality, easy and fun education. In this study, it will be reviewed how the role of Virtual reality technology can help students in understanding the science of building construction. Through combination the use of tools such as VR Gear, 360 cameras and digital computer design, it is expected that various methods that are appropriate, convenient and easy for students.
3-dimensional printing is an additive manufacturing (AM) method using polylacticacid (PLA) filaments. However, PLA filaments still have limitations such as the hygroscopic properties of the material. This type of filament easily absorbs air from air humidity, so it will have an impact on the chemical damage of PLA. In this research, a composite file storage area will be designed. The method of making this file storage area will use a composite material Medium Density Board (MDF) with a simple manufacturing method. The filament storage area is expected to prevent and reduce air absorption and the lifespan of filaments in PLA filaments, thus helping users of 3-dimensional printing produce better results.
This paper elaborates discourse on Highway Automatic Tollgate (HAT) within logistics and supply chain engineering perspectives. The aforementioned HAT and its implementation are complying with the Product Design Engineering’s perspectives within theoretical and industrial implementation through Industry 4.0 in Indonesia. The objective of this paper is to intertwine the theoretical perspectives with industrial implementation. The industrial implementation constitutes the effort to implement paperless system for HAT in order to reduce wasted papers that are necessarily needed by user of this HAT, as transaction proof. The result and discussion of this paper comprise several discussions to be considered. To begin with, the result of this paperless system helps the cleaning service officers to reduce their cleaning duty. Furthermore, the result of this paperless system integrates the concept of industry 4.0 within scope of internet of things (IoT) and internet of everything (IoE). Subsequently, the discussion on this paper refers to the discourse on logistics and supply chain engineering perspectives, to ease the transaction proof involving big data. As a result, it reduces significantly the vehicle traffic and time needed to proceed to transaction in the aforementioned HAT. This paper refers to the research methodology within quantitative approach. As future research, it is indispensable to intertwine both aforementioned theoretical and industrial implementation. Both implementation, as future research, need to be integrated within the Asia Region.
