The relevance of the study is determined by the great interest of linguistic science to the issues of cross-cultural communication and their significance in teaching English as a foreign language. The journalistic discourse is a peculiar phenomenon of linguistics because it reflects socio-cultural features of specific communication space; it creates a language picture of the world of a certain culture and society through the specific socio-cultural lexical units -realities. The main aim of the study is to examine, analyse, summarise and systematise sociocultural linguistic resources as a means of creating and transmitting linguistic awareness, revealing the pragmatic aspects of their functioning in the journalistic discourse. In order to achieve this goal the following steps have been taken: 1) to study the characteristics of the journalistic discourse; 2) to determine the specific genres of the journalistic discourse of the English language periodicals and mass media on-line resources; 3) to investigate the cognitive and pragmatic features of the vocabulary functioning, which reflect the peculiarities of the English language context of the socio-cultural aspect of the journalistic discourse; 4) to categorise and analyse the thematic and typological groups of socio-cultural realities and study their functions in the context. The possible application of the obtained results is to develop the scientific and teaching facilities in the field of foreign language learning and translation.
The author's individual style as a multilevel and multidimensional manifestation of personality is an integral part of the study of modern linguistics and cognitive linguistics. Modern linguistics text aims to move from the study of integrated textual structure to the analysis of the text as an anthropocentric communicative system aimed at the personal linguistic qualities of each author in connection with his psychological, mental, socio-cultural, and cognitive features. We define the author's style and reflection of the author's picture of the world as a complex of a structurally and internally connected system of specific stylistic means and forms of creative verbal expression inherent in the textual activity of a particular author. The idiostyle of the author reflects the language culture, type of thinking, the specifics of the cognitive attitude to what is happening. The individual style of the writer is interpreted as a new artistic image of the world, a complex dialectical combination of natural-general and individual one. It is determined that the genre specificity of Dan Brown's works can be considered a conspiracy thriller. Signs of this genre, one of which is suspense, the dynamics of events, and the symbolic space, actualize the historical, cultural, and geographical deixis, the cultural code of the author. In this article, we will analyze the features of the individual author's style of Dan Brown his stylistic dominants as a tool of associative thinking of the author. The author's symbolism represents the intentionality, imagery, motivation, imperativeness, psychologism that reflect the writer's worldview, his poetics.
The scientific investigation deals with the stream of consciousness as a constituent of spontaneity poetics in the writings of British and American authors of different literary epochs. The stream of consciousness reflects the complicated and steady mental process of the detailed fixation of thoughts, senses, and unconscious movements. The purpose of our paper is to solve such problems: to explain the notion of stream of consciousness from the spontaneity poetics point of view; to characterize the types of stream of consciousness according to another narrator and the means of thoughts presented in the speech of a character; to trace the ontological transformation of the stream of consciousness in diachronic. Introduced by W. James as a term of psychology, stream of consciousness was established in a literary context by May Sinclair in 1918. Since the modernist time, lingo poetics differentiates between the terms internal monologue and stream of consciousness the grounds of the linguistic organization of the artistic text. Thus, the stream of consciousness defines a narrative method of storytelling by which an author provides a direct reflection of the mental activity of a character. This linguistic poetical technique becomes an imperative element of modernist fiction, and post-modernist prose turns to the sensory-mental pre-reflexive flow, which, in contrast with modernist tradition, reproduces the psychedelic state of altered consciousness or internal mental conflict of the characters. Speaking about the internal structure of the stream of consciousness, we determine the following his three constituents: the primary impulse to think, the thought that the character develops; sudden external circumstances at present that make the consciousness react and alter the thinking; mental transformation determined by the spontaneous associations from the past, often traumatic. Depending on an author's presence in a character's speech, the stream of consciousness can be direct or indirect. According to the way of presenting opinions in the character's speech, there can be the following categories of the stream of consciousness in the fiction text: sensual impression, thought aside, psychological analysis, state of altered consciousness. Each group of stream of consciousness has its peculiar punctuation, the measure of stylistic labeling, specific syntax. Contemporary post-modern literature in English has examples of novels-stream-of-consciousness, which manifests the creative orientation of the writers at the inner world of a human, their sensual-emotional spontaneity through the mean of the stream of consciousness, and the continuous transformation process of the stylistic technique stream of consciousness within lingo poetics.
The article presents a multimodal study of leadership language on the example of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky’s speeches. The work analyzes how coverage of Zelensky's orations constructs frames of the Ukrainian – Russian war viewing. How media (using a mechanism that allows creating a new psychological frame to expand their perception) reframes the outlooks by imposing a specific interpretation onto events. As a result of both textual and visual analysis of Zelensky's video messages, it is evident that to achieve the communicative goal, the President uses a complex system of argumentation schemes (from the sign “argument from the sign”, by analogy “argument by analogy”, cause-and-effect relationship). Numerous strategic and tactical communicative techniques and tools (metaphors, metonymies, epithets, comparisons, allusions, means of stylistic syntax) aimed at creating a frame of Ukraine and shaping its identity allow his speeches to sound clear and convincing.
