THE CHALENGES OF EJA IN THE LITERACY PROCESS: A STUDY CASE OF TRÊS LAGOAS-MS ABSTRACTThe last decades have been strongly marked by investments on eradicating illiteracy among young and adults as well as by discussions on the literates of EJA (Young and Adults Education) mode in Brazil. Based on this scenario, the aim of this article is to cope with issues regarding young and adult education (EJA) by reflecting on the EJA mode set up in Brazil, specifically in the city of Três Lagoas-MS. The study is theoretically rooted in the literacy perspective, which characterizes the educational theories of EJA's mode by linking them with the educational external environment challenges presented in the teaching-learning process. The methodological approach is based on bibliographical research, statistical data analysis and on the analysis of official documents, such as Mato Grosso do Sul' Education State Plan.
