1,2:3,4‐Di‐O‐isopropylidene‐β‐L‐arabinose (3) reacts with lithium diisopropylamide to give the 4‐deoxy‐4‐eno sugar 4. After its oxidation a stereospecific 1,4‐addition by methyllithium/copper (I) iodide yields the 4,6‐dideoxy‐3‐ulose 6.

New Syntheses of M y d . Olivomycd. and Methyl 2 , 3 ,~T r i d e o x y~~-~~o~Methyl 0-1 mycaroside (6a) is obtained from the dideoxy-uloside 2 by Grignard addition. The benzylidene rhamnoside ( l a ) reacts with methyllithium to give in only one step mycaral(4) (21%) and olivornycal (5) (72%). With lithiumdiisopropylarnide 1a yields the unsaturated sugar 3a.
Methyl-4.6-O-benzyliden-2-desoxy-a-~-ery~~~o-hexopyranosid-3-ulose l l R t sich ineinem Schritt aus Methyl-2.3 : 4,6-di-O-benzyliden-a-~-mannopyranosid durch cyclische Eliminierung von knzaldehyd mit n-Butyllithium in hohen Ausbeuten erhalten I ) . Die Ubertragung dieser Reaktion auf ein entsprechendes 2,3-O-knzylidenderivat der L-Rharnnose war von gronem Interesse, da das zu erwartende Didesoxy-ulosid eine wichtige Zwischenstufe in der Synthese methylverzweigter Antibiotica-Zucker. wie L-Mycarose, L-Cladinose und L-Olivomycose darstellt . Wesentliches Problem dabei war der reversible Schutz der 4-OH-Gruppe. Clode et al. fuhrten die Reaktion nach 0. a. Methode am MethyI-2,3-O-benzyliden-4-0methyl-a-L-rhamnopyranosid durch 'I. Mit dem Tetrahydropyranyl(THP)-Rest fanden wir kllrzlich eine fur diese Zwecke geeignetere Schutzgruppe".
Synthese von Methyl-a-L-rnycarosid (6a)Met hyI-2,6-didesoxy-4-0-(tet rahydro-2H-pyran-2-yI)-a-~-eryrhro-hexopyranosid-3dose (2)" reagiert rnit Methylmagnesiumiodid in Ether fast vollstlndig und erwartungsgemln hoch stereoselektiv zu Methyl-2.6-didesoxy-3-C-methyl-4-O-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)-a-~-ribo-hexopyranosid (6b). Das L-orobino-Isomere ist hdchstens in Spuren vorhanden. Die Abspaltung des THP-Restes von 6b rnit p-Toluolsulfonslure in Methanol verliuft in guten Ausbeuten und fiihrt zu 6a. Methyladdition und THP-Abspaltung lassen sich ohne vorherige Reinisolierung von 6b vornehmen. Die Ausbeute an 6a. bezogen auf 2, betrlgt dann 58%. Chem. Ber. //4(1981) 0 Verlag Chemie. GmbH.
