The frequency of the main radiological signs found in plain films of the abdomen is presented in 100 cases of acute pancreatitis. The authors believe that this is the first statistical analysis of the gastrocolic separation sign. It is most useful to recognize the gastrocolic sign because of its high incidence (49%) and to understand the physio-pathological alterations that contribute to its formation.
