In this study, the data envelopment analysis (DEA), three-stage DEA (3SDEA) and artificial neural network (ANN) are employed to measure the technical efficiency of 29 semi-conductor firms in Taiwan. Estimated results show that there are significant differences in efficiency scores among DEA, 3SDEA and ANN analysis. The advanced setting of the three stages mechanism of DEA does show some changes in the efficiency scores between DEA and ANN approaches. We further find that the environmental factor is still a significant variable to explain technical efficiency in Taiwan, irrespective of whether a DEA, 3SDEA or ANN approach is used.
<p class="1main-text">The purpose of this study is to apply a standard DEA model, cross-efficiency model and category variables DEA in evaluating operational efficiency for vocational and senior high schools in Xindan area, new Taipei city. The procedures this paper. Firstly, we do not consider neither different properties nor peer group for senior high or vocational school to evaluate their operational efficiencies by standard DEA model. Secondly, we apply DEA cross-efficiency (DEA-CE) model to perform self and peer-evaluation for the operational efficiency of the related different schools. Thirdly, we consider peer group and classify two groups in view of different properties to assess their performance by categorical variable DEA (CVDEA). Finally, by comparisons of the three performance results, the categorical variable model can better estimate operational efficiency for these vocational and senior high schools in the District of New Taipei City than that those of other two models.</p>
The goal of this research is to evaluate the innovative teaching to affect school efficiency through using digital mobile e-learning of high school in Taiwan. Based on Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Tobit regression model (TRM). The empirical results of this research indicate the following results: (1) Importing digital mobile e-learning can really enhance the efficiency of school management. (2) School size, teacher-student ratio, School High-Vocational attribute, especially the numbers of technical teachers in teaching or consulting about digital mobile e-learning knowledge and numbers of Tablet PC (proxy for digital mobile e-learning) to affect efficiency of school management. Therefore, in order to increase students learning effectiveness in school, it is necessary to first add school size, Tablet PC numbers and technical teachers. However, total equipment expenses associated with tablet PC has a small negative influence on school management efficiency due to the increasing costs for furnishing the related internet and network equipment or device facilitate for teaching and learning among teachers and students by digital mobile e-learning. The results of this research can also be the reference for educational authorities when formulating policies and regulations for promoting digital mobile e-learning.
Article HistoryThe goal of this research is to evaluate the innovative teaching to affect school efficiency through using digital mobile e-learning of high school in Taiwan. Based on data envelopment analysis (DEA) and bootstrap truncated regression (BTR) model. The empirical results of this research indicate the following results: (1) Importing digital mobile e-learning can really enhance the efficiency of school management. (2) The results suggested in BTR model justifies that among the eight-factor analyses, six factors were overestimated and the factors with total equipment expenses and teacherstudent ratio were under estimated by Tobit regression model (TRM). Also, the results for the effects of school location and school attribute on school's operational efficiency were non-significant in TRM. In comparison, the estimated effects of school location and school attribute on school's operational efficiency by BTR in this study are significant. Therefore, the factors studied here may be important in explaining the determinants of school efficiencies from innovative teaching through digital mobile eLearning. To increase students learning effectiveness in school, it is necessary to first add school size, Tablet PC numbers, and technical teachers. However, the result shows total equipment expenses associated with tablet PC have a small negative influence on school management efficiency. On the other hand, the results show that the effect of school location, school attribute and school high-vocational attribute on school's operational efficiency have significant. Mainly, the degree of school's operational efficiency also needs to be taken into account their school attributes such as equipment, teaching quality, management decisions and etc. by digital mobile e-learning.
Contribution/ Originality:This study is one of very few studies which have investigated to evaluate the innovative teaching to affect school efficiency through using digital mobile e-learning of high school in Taiwan. It has also revealed that the degree of school's operational efficiency also needs to be taken into account their school attributes such as equipment, teaching quality, management decisions and etc. by digital mobile e-learning, can really enhance the efficiency of school management.
