International audienceAs a new development of the Internet, distribution lists enable translators gathered in so-called networks to share their difficulties with their colleagues. Distribution lists therefore appear as a supplement to traditional problem-solving strategies and sometimes even as a substitute to conventional steps of the translation process. Cogitive processes considered so far on an individual basis can be tackled on a collective basis, which leads to revising established patterns of the translation process.Les listes de diffusion, nouvelle fonctionnalité induite par l’usage d’Internet, permettent aujourd’hui aux traducteurs de se regrouper en réseaux de façon à partager avec leurs collègues les difficultés rencontrées dans l’exercice de la profession. Ces listes s’inscrivent donc en complément des stratégies classiques de résolution de problème et se substituent parfois même à certaines étapes du processus de traduction. La dimension cognitive, jusqu’à présent abordée à l’échelle individuelle, acquiert de ce fait une dimension collective, non sans incidence sur la représentation du processus de traduction
Les romans Vengeance du traducteur et Les Nègres du traducteur, de Brice Matthieussent et de Claude Bleton respectivement, se jouent des hiérarchies traditionnelles entre auteur et traducteur, original et traduction, illustrant chacun par leur intrigue et leur trame un visage parfois méconnu de la traduction, celui de la traduction déviante, subversive et transgressive, néanmoins propice à un questionnement sur son statut générique et son rapport à l’écriture princeps.
Deverbalisation is a key concept of the interpretive theory which keeps raising questions, misunderstanding and comments. This article aims at shedding new light on the process at work in written texts, starting from a different angle, i.e. translated texts in which it mighta posterioribe inferred. Assumptions which need be born in mind are recollected, setting a framework or background accounting at least partly for deverbalisation. Examples are given which make it possible for new questions to arise or new points of view to be taken into account. Links with other notions of the interpretive theory such as meaning, successful translation, transcoding and methodological issues are also reviewed.
In the novel Vengeance du traducteur, Brice Matthieussent focuses on the translator-author relationship and tackles the question from the point of view of the translator’s note. The author is eventually murdered by the translator out of revenge, not only in symbolical terms but also in literal terms. A given aesthetics of translation is thereby conveyed, going through stages of appropriation, digestion, transportation and transgression of text and translation rules, which nonetheless does not necessarily reflect the author’s genuine stand, a famous translator himself.
In this novel, Brice Matthieussent depicts a translator who tries to get rid of the author and his « authority » by all kinds of means. Even if the narrative is very developed and sometimes difficult to follow, Matthieussent seems to aim at demonstrating the creative force and value of translation, however ‘spectral’ it may have been considered for long.
