In den ers~en Jahren der Salvarsan~ru ents~anden zur ErkI~rtmg der nach dem MR~el auf~re~enden unangenehmen Nebenerscheinungen die verschiedenen Theorien fas~ indus~rieartig. Man sprach selbs~ dann yon Manifes~ierung des l~enten nervSsen Leidens, d. h. yon Neuroreak~ion, yon auf das Nervensys~em lokalisierter Jarisch-Herxheimerscher Reak~ion, yon Endo~oxinwirkung und ' Neurorezidivel~, wenn sich das klinische Bild in den Ausfallssymptomen der gewShnlichen Arsenver~f~ung kund~a~. Man sprach yon ,,anaphylak~oider" Reakiion auch bei den gas~roin~es~inalen und peripheren neuri~ischen Formen der Arsenvergif~ung und yon chemischen und bak~eriellen ,,Wasserfehlern" in den leichteren F~illen der Intoxika~ion. Unter har~ni~ckiger Ablehnung der ,,Neuro~ropie" nahm man selbst in den ~ypischen Fi~llen yon Arsenvergif~ungen die ,,S~erilisatio fere comple~a ' an, welche nach Ehrlich an den dem Salvarsan schwer zug~inglichen Orten Spiroch~ten zuriickgelassen haben soll~e, die sp~er virulen~ geworden w~ren. Aber nich~ nur diese lokalisier~en Rezidive w~ren nach jenen Theorien die Folgen einer solchen ,,subtherapeu~ischen" Sulvarsandosierung, sondern diese hi~e sog~r die Gefahr im Gefolge, dal~ als ihre Fo]geerscheinung resisben~e Spiroch~i~ens~amme en~stgnden. Diese Erkl~rung fiihr~e na~urgem~i~ dahin, da~ man die sogenannie ,,Dosis tolera~a" nach MSglichkei~ s~e~ger~e. Die pathologisch-ana~omischen Befunde bei den Salvarsan~odesffillen, die chemischen Untersuchungen der Organe und Ausscheidungen der Lebenden, nebs~ den Ergebnissen der Tierexperimen~e und Toxil,~ologie gaben in vielen F//llen jenen rech~, die wie Obermiller, Finger~ Chiari, Men~berger usw. schon friiher den grS~en Tell jener ,Nebenerscheinungen"~ welche sich den Salvarsaninjek~ionen anschliel~en, fiir Symp~ome der Arsenintoxikation hielten.
Unter den Psychosen, welche infolge infekti5ser, toxischer oder mechanischer, die Itirnrinde sch~digender Einwirkungen entstehen. kommt das Korsakowsche'Zustandsbild verhKl~nism~l]ig selten zurBeobachtung. Die bei Infektionspsychosen, im Anschlusse an Strangulationen, traumatischen Verletzungen des Sch/idels usw. in den letzten Jahren beschriebenen derartigen FKlle sind Gegenstand al]gemeinen Interesses. Bei dem im folgenden dargestellten Fall zeigten sich zuerst Symptome, die auf eine akute Erkrankung der Meningen hinwiesen. Der in der Folge entstandene defektuose Zustand entspricht dem Korsakowschen Symptombild. Der Fall is t folgender: J. H., 38 j~hr. Staatslehrel'in. --Ihr Vater starb in hohem Alter an 9 Arterienverkalkung; vier ihrer Geschwister erlagen ihr unbekannten Leiden. Die Mutter lebt und ist gesund. In der Familie kamen Geisteskrankheiten, Nervenleiden, Selbstmord oder auff/illige Charakterziige nieht vor. Sie selbst iibers~and in friihen Kindesjahren die Rachitis, doch lernte sie zu normaler Zeit gehen und spr6chen. Im 6. Lebensjahr fiberstand sie Scharlach und Blat~ern, im 10. eine andere akute Infektionskrankheit. Mit dem 5. Lebensjahr kam sie in die Schule. Sie galt a]s strebsames, fleiBiges, jedoeh zuriiekgezogenes , verschlossenes Kind -con starkem re-ligiSsem Gefiihl. In einem Kloster absolvierte sie die Lehrerinnenbildungs-anstal~ und erhielt ira 22. Lebensjahre das Diplom. In den n~ehsten Jahren verfaBte sie als Mitarbeiterin sehSngeistiger und wissenschaftlieher Zeitschriften Aufs/itze, sogar Biicher belletristischer und p~idagogischer Richtung. In ihrem 26. Jahre heiratete sie, wurde jedoch nie gravid. Ira Laufe des Krieges leistet sie iiberanstrengende Arbeit, worauf sieh angeblieh chronisehe Obstipation, Appetitlosigkeit und h~ufige Kopfsehmerzen einstellen.
