A pomegranate is a species of wide use, especially due to the medicinal importance, where the fruits were appreciated around the world. The marketing of pomegranate has increased and aroused the interest of fruit producers in Brazil, however, knowledge of the quality and commercial viability of the fruit in natura is incipient. In this sense, this study aimed to determine the quality and postharvest life of pomegranates 'Molar' stored at 27ºC and 28% RH. Was used in a completely randomized design with four replications, each replicate consisting of five fruits and seven evaluation periods. At each assessment time 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 days of storage after harvest is conducted through analysis of samples of fruits (n = 20), obtained at random from the container type plastic boxes, condition where the total of 140 fruit was stored in the experiment. In each evaluation period was assessed longitudinal and transverse length, fresh weight loss, weight of arils, juice volume, seed mass, shell mass, soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (TA), pH, SS / TA, vitamin C and extern and interns appearance. Pomegranate 'Molar' produced in an organic system in semiarid from Paraíba is classified as sweet, with low acidity, less than 0,75% citric acid and soluble solid between 12 and 15%. The storage of fruits at 27 º C, 28% RH up to six days maintains appropriate biometric, physical-chemical and visual characteristics for the fresh fruit market. The storage of fruits at 27ºC, 28% RH for 18 days provocation dehydration of the skin, but not affect the quality or yield of juice extracted from the arils.
Palavras-chave: enxerto, propagação vegetativa, Punica granatum L. Growth and physiology of pomegranate nursery tree cv. wonderful propagated by graftingABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate different methods of grafting and time of obtaining nursery of pomegranate tree 'Wonderful' under the rootstock 'Molar'. The split-plot scheme, with the grafting methods in plot: cleft grafting, side slit grafting, patch budding and inverted T budding and sub-plot four periods of evaluation, 45, 60, 75 and 90 days after grafting, in a completely randomized design, with four replications and five nursery per experimental unit was used. Grafting is a method that can be used to propagate the pomegranate tree 'Wonderful'. The methods by cleft grafting and side slit grafting showed higher budding efficiency of the nursery pomegranate tree. Grafting by budding patch is not viable for propagation of the pomegranate tree, to promote low percentages budding efficiency. The grafting method in side slit provided to the nursery of pomegranate tree greater growth and dry matter accumulation. Nursery of pomegranate tree 'Wondeful' can be produced in 75 days using the methods of cleft grafting or side slit grafting.
The seminiferous propagation of the pomegranate tree is dramatically affected by the presence of a sarcotesta, which often makes this method of propagation unfeasible. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the production of rootstocks for Mollar pomegranate cuttings under different management techniques in the dry and wet seasons. Two experiments were performed, one in the dry season (August to December 2012, Experiment I), and another in the rainy season (January to June 2013, Experiment II). The experiments used a completely randomized design with four replications and five seedlings per plot. To monitor plant growth and physiology, a factorial scheme using two factors, management of softwood cuttings (cuttings with leaves; cuttings without leaves; and cuttings without leaves, but with an incision at the base) and evaluation times (60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 days after planting [DAP] in Experiment I and 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, and 150 DAP in Experiment II) was adopted. The propagation material was collected from commercial plants, from the median portion of the branch. The cuttings were approximately 15 cm long. Cuttings without leaves with an incision at the base were more suitable for vegetative propagation of Mollar pomegranate trees, regardless of season (dry or wet). Seedlings grown in the rainy season had higher survival rates and higher root and shoot growth. The use of cuttings with leaves for the vegetative propagation of the Mollar pomegranate tree in the dry season is not feasible. The best time to transplant Mollar pomegranate tree seedlings, in the rainy season, is at 130 DAP, at an average height of 45 cm.
-This study aimed to evaluate the use of starch degradation index (SDI) in the diagnosis of areas of impact injuries in 'Tommy Atkins' mango, in different maturation stages. The experiment layout was a fully randomized factorial design (5 x 2), represented by five maturation stages and two handlings, with and without impact, with four replicates. SDI was determined through a subjective scale of scores indicating mango pulp darkened areas by reaction with iodine-potassium iodide solution. Subsequently, these scores were correlated with physicochemical quality variables. The results showed no influence of impact on fruit quality, in any of the studied maturation stages. Moreover, soluble solid contents increased throughout maturation stages, regardless of whether the fruits suffered impact or not. As a result, SDI is unsuitable to indicate fruit impact injury. However, there is a good correlation between SDI and pulp color, vitamin C, pH, titratable acidity, soluble solids, SS/ TA ratio and non-reducing sugars. Keywords: Mangifera indica L..
Pancreatic protease contents (trypsinogen and chymotrypsinogen) were analyzed in 4- and 8-week-old chickens fed a single 2-hour meal daily. Enzyme activities showed a 24-hour cyclic degression and repletion rhythm. According to the age of the animal, pancreatic depletion preceded (4 weeks) or coincided (8 weeks) with the beginning of the meal. No rhythm was observed in the ad libitum fed chicken. Pancreatic secretion was also studied in the small intestine contents (duodenum, jejunum and ileum, successively) in the 8-week-old chickens.
The use of new technologies is important for the preservation of guava, especially in reaching long-distance markets, being indispensable to associate storage techniques to increase the durability of fresh fruit. We evaluated the efficiency of edible coatings based on agar and Scenedemus sp. on the quality and post-harvest conservation of 'Paluma' guava. The experiment consisted of a randomized design with four replicates. The treatments (T) were composed of mixing concentrations between agar and Scenedesmus sp.: A: (0% + 0%); B: (0% + 0.5%); C: (0% + 1%); D: (0% + 2%); E: (3% + 0%); F: (3% + 0.5%); G: (4% + 0%) and H: (4% + 0.5%) applied by immersion. At the end of 11 days of storage at 10 °C ± 2ºC and 65% ± 5% RH, the fruit was analyzed. There was a significant effect (P < 0.05) of the coating based on Scenedesmus sp. on the brightness (L*) of the peel and pulp of guava, hue (°h) and chromaticity (C*) of the peel, loss of fresh mass, firmness of the pulp, ascorbic acid, titratable acidity, pH, SS/AT ratio, and total sugars. We observed a lower maturation and maintenance of the post-harvest quality of 'Paluma' guava with the active packages corresponding to treatments F and H. This included the maintenance of the indexes L*, C* and h of peel color, retention in the loss of fresh mass, in the firmness and maintenance of organic acids
