Aim: To analyze the implications of self-care on the risk factors of ulceration in the feet of patients with diabetes mellitus, related to dermatology, orthopedic, neurological and vascular alterations. Method: Cross-sectional study, involving 1,515 patients with diabetes mellitus type 2, older than 40 years, enrolled in basic health units. Results: The prevalence of feet at risk of ulceration was 12.3%. Changes in tibial and dorsalis pedis pulses, the altered capillary filling, the presence of bony prominences, hallux valgus, claw and hammer toes and the loss of protective sensation in the feet were associated with the risk of ulceration. Discussion: The prevalence of feet at risk of ulceration was considered high and is related to different dermatological, vascular and neuropathic factors permeated by the self-care factor. Conclusions: The prevention of alterations in the diabetic foot involves maintenance of glycemic control and specific foot care.
Cross-sectional study, quantitative, descriptive and exploratory research, which aimed to evaluate the profile and quality of pharmacotherapy prescribed to elderly residents in long-stay institutions located in Londrina-PR. The population consisted of 203 elderly patients with predominantly female, mean aged 76.4 years. It was found that 97.0% of the population used one drug. One hundred and fifty one different active ingredients were prescribed, with an average of 5.3 per elderly. From all of the individuals surveyed, 59.9% were subjected to polypharmacy. It was identified 359 possible drug interactions, and 58.1% of the elderly were exposed to these events. It was found that was prescribed at least one drug of improper category to 58.1% of the elderly who were using drugs.
RESUMO:Pesquisa descritiva, quantitativa, cujo objetivo foi identificar sintomas do climatério e sua interferência no processo de trabalho. Utilizou-se amostra estratificada de 385 profissionais de um hospital universitário público; os dados foram coletados por meio de formulário sociodemográfico e do Questionário da Saúde da Mulher, entre março e maio de 2010, e analisados com auxílio de programas estatísticos, após dupla digitação. Os sintomas somáticos foram os mais referidos e com maior interferência no processo de trabalho: artralgia e mialgia (76,6%) interferem em 27,5%; cansaço excessivo e cefaléia (62,1%) interferem em 22,9 e 21,6% respectivamente. Na categoria ansiedade, a agitação foi referida por 67% dos profissionais, 24,4% afirmaram que ela pode influenciar o processo de trabalho, identificando-se interferência do climatério no processo de trabalho. A preparação da mulher para a continuidade da vida, a partir dos 40 anos, deveria ser objetivo das políticas públicas e institucionais, promovendo a saúde da mulher climatérica. Tem-se como objetivo avaliar o perfil e o grau de dependência de 204 idosos institucionalizados residentes em instituições filantrópicas de longa permanência, Londrina-PR, Brasil. Estudo transversal, quantitativo, descritivo e exploratório. Predominou indivíduos do sexo feminino com média de idade de 76,4 anos, 44,5% eram solteiros e 42,2% não possuíam filhos. Somente 58,8% dos idosos possuíam dados disponíveis relacionados à escolaridade e desses 80,0% eram analfabetos ou possuíam ensino fundamental incompleto; 53,9% deambulavam sem dificuldades e 34,3% não deambulavam. Verificou-se que 58,8% eram dependentes para realizar o banho, 55,9% para vestir-se, 49% para utilizar o sanitário, 38,2% para deitar e levantar, 34,8% eram incontinentes, 14,7% recebiam assistência para se alimentar e 2% recebiam alimentação por via enteral. As instituições têm um papel fundamental na evolução do grau de dependência do idoso, podendo ser fator de piora, quando limita as atividades de vida diária e os estímulos fornecidos a essa população.
