Objective:to investigate differences with regard to foot self-care and lifestyle between men and women with diabetes mellitus.Method: cross-sectional study conducted in a sample of 1,515 individuals with diabetes mellitus aged 40 years old or older. Poisson regression models were used to identity differences in foot self-care deficit and lifestyle between sexes, adjusting for socioeconomic and clinical characteristics, smoking and alcohol consumption. Results: foot self-care deficit, characterized by not regularly drying between toes; not regularly checking feet; walking barefoot; poor hygiene and inappropriately trimmed nails, was significantly higher among men, though men presented a lower prevalence of feet scaling and use of inappropriate shoes when compared to women. With regard to lifestyle, men presented less healthy habits, such as not adhering to a proper diet and taking laboratory exams to check for lipid profile at the frequency recommended. Conclusion: the nursing team should take into account gender differences concerning foot self-care and lifestyle when implementing educational activities and interventions intended to decrease risk factors for foot ulceration.
Objective: To grasp the perceptions and experiences of professionals in the primary health care as teamwork in the Family Health Strategy (FHS) in a medium-sized municipality in the southern of Brazil. Method: Qualitative research carried out, between April and July 2016, with 13 health professionals (nurses, doctors, dentists, community health agents, nursing technicians and oral health aide) workers in FHS. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, transcribed and submitted to content analysis. Results: From the analysis emerged three thematic categories: Teamwork from the perspective of the FHS health professionals; Strategies for maintaining teamwork out of daily routine; and Challenges of the insertion of Oral Health in the FHS. Conclusions and implications for a practice: Participants demonstrated that they understood the importance of teamwork and interpersonal relationships, and recognize the inherent challenges of this process. They revealed weaknesses in the relationships among dentistry and other members of the FHS, marked by a sense of exclusion and disinterest in participating.
Objective. Investigate the burnout syndrome among undergraduate students in nursing. Methods. Explanatory sequential mixed method study conducted at a public university in Brazil. Of the 119 nursing students, 114 consented to participate and answered a questionnaire composed of sociodemographic, academic variables, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Student Survey, which were analyzed by multiple linear regression. The participants of the quantitative phase with the indicative / risk of burnout were interviewed individually (n=21) to provide an in-depth understanding of the students' experiences regarding the dimensions of the syndrome, whose statements were analyzed by the Collective Subject Discourse. Results. The prevalence of burnout syndrome was 10.5% among the surveyed. The more advanced the school year, the higher were the exhaustion (p=0.003), depersonalization (p<0.001) and low academic effectiveness (p=0.012) scores. Students with a higher workload of assignments also had higher scores of exhaustion (p=0.001), depersonalization (p<0.001) and academic (in)effectiveness (p=0.042). Dissatisfaction with the course was related to higher exhaustion (p=0.049) and depersonalization (p=0.001). The collective speeches showed the daily demands of the course, considered as intense, producing overload and exhaustion, which produced symptoms of physical and mental illness. Thus, there was the student's distancing from the course activities, as a defensive attitude, which culminated in feelings of incompetence and frustration. Conclusion. The occurrence of burnout syndrome dimensions among nursing students was related to the activities of academic daily life. It is urgent to invest in health promotion and prevention actions of these individuals in the university context.
