El tomate (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.) a nivel mundial es la segunda hortaliza de mayor importancia. En México, el cultivo cobra relevancia económica y social generando divisas y empleos, los sistemas de producción de esta hortaliza se han ido diversificando con el fin de incrementar el rendimiento, incorporando tecnologías novedosas como cubiertas plásticas, riego por goteo e hidroponía. Uno de los principales factores que determinan el éxito del cultivo es el sustrato, pues constituyen el medio en que se desarrollaran las raíces las cuales tienen gran influencia en el crecimiento y desarrollo. En este trabajo se evaluó durante el ciclo agrícola 2008–2009 el efecto de los sustratos: Aserrín de pino, composta de estiércol de ovino, tierra agrícola y tezontle rojo; en el crecimiento, y rendimiento del tomate. El diseño experimental que se utilizó fue bloques completamente al azar, con cuatro repeticiones y se evaluaron diez tratamientos producto de la combinación de los sustratos a un volumen de 1:1, cada unidad experimental estuvo constituida por cuatro plantas, las variables estudiadas fueron sometidas a un análisis de varianza (ANOVA) mediante el paquete estadístico Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). El genotipo que se utilizó fue Sun 7705. Se detectaron diferencias significativas entre sustratos, la mezcla aserríncomposta afectó en mayor respuesta las variables altura 4.61 m, grosor del tallo 2.1 cm, frutos de mayor peso 107.8 g, y rendimiento por planta de 4 kg y 25 kg/m -2 . Sin embargo, el número de flores y de racimos fue mayor en el sustrato aserrín, por lo que la mezcla aserrín-composta puede ser una opción viable para producir tomate en invernadero.
Objetivo: Presentar un análisis comparativo del Programa ARCO en dos estados afectados incipientemente por el Huanglongbing de los cítricos.Metodología: Se realizaron recorridos exploratorios, entrevistas abiertas a actores clave del programa y entrevistas estructuradas a productores. Resultados: Ambos estados tienen condiciones contrastantes en su actividad citrícola; como son las condiciones socioeconómicas de los productores, la escala y tecnificación de los huertos y suorientación al mercado. Los resultados muestran que, en Tecomán Colima, la producción de cítricos es de gran escala con producción de exportación; mientras que en Axtla de Terrazas, S.L.P., la producción es de pequeña escala, complementaria de los ingresos de familias indígenas y orientada al mercado nacional. A pesar de tales diferencias, el programa ARCO operó de la misma manera en ambas condiciones, afectando su eficacia. El idioma, las sesiones presenciales de capacitación y lo poco apropiado del contenido ofrecido en tales sesiones fueron factores determinantes para explicar tanto el limitado conocimiento para identificar y tratar la enfermedad, como la baja sensibilidad e interés de los productores de Axtla de Terrazas para participar en el programa ARCO.Limitaciones del estudio: Debido a su enfoque, Estudio de Caso, los resultados, conclusiones y recomendaciones de esta investigación no pueden ser extrapolados fuera de los lugares y periodos de tiempo estudiados.Conclusiones: El Programa ARCO demostró incapacidad para considerar las significativas diferencias en las condiciones socieconómicas de los productores en su diseño. Se hacen recomendaciones para mejorar el diseño y, por lo tanto, el futuro desempeño del programa.
Objetivo: conocer la percepción, opinión y actitud de los productores de amaranto del municipio de Tochimilco, México, hacia la agregación de valor al grano, así como identificar las variables explicativas de la disponibilidad de los productores a agregar valor a la producción primaria de amaranto. Metodología: los datos se obtuvieron mediante encuesta estructurada a una muestra estadistica de 70 productores de amaranto, con confiabilidad del 95 % y precisión del 10 porciento. Los datos se analizaron con estadistica descriptiva y el uso de un modelo econométrico de regresión probit ordinal. Resultados: se encontro que 77 % de los hogares no consumen el amaranto y 97 % no realizan ningun tipo de agregación de valor a su producción. Las principales causas son falta de capital, capacitación, y desconocimiento del mercado. Los productores estan dispuestos a agregar valor a su producción si tuviesen seguro el Mercado (70%) y si recibieran apoyos del gobierno para maquinaria y equipo (27%). Las variables explicativas y significativas (p ≤ 0.05) de la DAV al amaranto, y con mayores efectos marginales, son la escolaridad, en el intervalo de bachillerato terminado o mayor, la edad, en el intervalo de 20-35 años, conocimiento sobre procesos de agregación de valor, y conocimiento de los gustos y preferencias de los consumidores. Limitaciones: la principal fue la disponibilidad de recursos para entrevistar a una muestra mas grande para mejorar la precisión de los estimadores. Conclusión: la agregación de valor a la producción de amaranto podría darse, si se generan los incentivos correctos; capacitación y financiamiento. Existe una actitud positiva hacia la agregación de valor.
