The species Senecio westermanii Dusén, which belongs to the Asteraceae family, is an endemic and native plant from Brazil. It is found mainly in the Atlantic Forest region, in Paraná and São Paulo states. This study aimed to evaluate the phytochemical composition using a qualitative phytochemical analysis and high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detector (HPLC-DAD), to evaluate preliminary toxicity in vitro using Artemia salina and antioxidant potential. Qualitative phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, iridoids, steroids, triterpenes, saponinic glycosides and aminogroups. The analysis by HPLC-DAD provided the characteristic fingerprint of each sample. In the A. salina assay, the results of LD 50 over 1000 μg/mL for all samples did not indicate toxicity of the evaluated extracts. All samples demonstrated antioxidant activity by reducing phosphomolybdenum complex. The highest activity was detected in the chloroform fraction, which presented activity of 92.51% compared to the standard rutin. Reg...
Species from the Bignoniaceae Family, including the genus Tynanthus, are very prevalent in the tropical Americas, with specimens found in a large part of the Brazilian territory. These plants are commonly used in traditional medicine for several purposes, and some studies have described their chemical structure, in addition to other reports related to some species from this genus. This review aimed to gather information from published works concerning species of the genus Tynanthus, as well as to detect flaws in research related to these plants, which may have great biological and pharmaceutical importance. Also, this review points out some common chemical characteristics of these species, providing information that may help new researchers to improve their knowledge about these plants.Uniterms: Tynanthus/pharmacognosy. ABSTRACT:Over the past few years we've been seeing a growing trend to use and recovery prescription formulas masterful in dealing with skin care. These products are usually made of substances that help to keep skin in perfect condition, ie, hydrated and healthy. Among such substances has been seconded from the plant for the treatment of dry skin. In this context, is the mango butter (Mangifera indica), the family of Anacardiaceae, a raw material extracted from the seed of the fruit of mango, chemically composed of a mixture of fatty acids that justies its emollient properties and regenerating the epidermis. This raw material led to the development of an emulsion base for its incorporation. In the sensory evaluation of the emulsion, it is conrmed the potential of moisturizing mango butter, since 97% of volunteers felt their skin protected after use.
The species Tynanthus micranthus Corr. Méllo, is popularly known as "Cipó Cravo" or "Craveiro", and is usually used as a stimulant and aphrodisiac, and found in the north of the State of Paraná - Brazil. The isolate the alkane dotriacontane from T. micranthus and to verify its action on the activation of human neutrophils to produce superoxide anions by the nitroblue tetrazolium reduction method (NBT), in comparison with the activation obtained by commercial dotriacontane. The ethanolic extract dried leaves was prepared by modified Soxhlet apparatus. Then the ethanolic extract was fractionated with n-hexane to obtain the hexane fraction which was submitted to the chromatographic column to obtain the compound dotriacontane. The substance was identified by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Isolated and commercial dotriacontane were evaluated by the NBT assay for verification of the activation of human neutrophils. The isolated and commercial dotriacontane activated neutrophils (10.0 μg/mL) when compared to phorbol myristate acetate (PMA) (10.0 μg/mL). In the quantitative test commercial dotriacontane induced significant activation when compared to PMA (10.0 μg/mL). The substance dotriacontane, first time identified in the genus Tynanthus. The dotriacontane was shown to be important to confirm the activation of human neutrophils to produce superoxide anions.
