-All university students are expected to be able to write in English. One way to achieve this purpose is through comicstrip media. The aims of this study to determine the effectiveness of the comic-strip media in improving English writing ability of mechanical engineering students. This research focuses on writing procedure text. This research applied quasi-experimental "pre-test post-test design". It was conducted at the Muhammadiyah University of Metro in academic Year 2015/2016. The population involved in this study is mechanical engineering students that consisted of 60 students and were divided into 30 students in experimental class and 30 students in control class. The variables of this study were: (1) CIRC method with comic-strip media as independent variables, and (2) ability to write as the dependent variable. The instrument used in this study was a writing test. To analyze the data, researcher used ttest formula. The results showed the value of ttestTTable 3.57 and 2.00 (criterion 1) and 2.66 (criterion 2). From these results, it can be concluded that the CIRC method through comic strips can improve writing ability of mechanical engineering students.
:Character education plays an important part because it is not only about moral and value education. It has a higher significance of moral education, because it not only teaches what is right and what is wrong. More than that character education inculcate the habit (habituation) about good things and wrong, can feel (affective domain) good value and used to do (behavioral domain). So the character education linked closely associated with persistent habits practiced or implemented. It is commonly believed that the practices of English language teaching always accompanied by the insertion of foreign cultural values which are not always in line with Indonesia cultural values. The aim of this study is to improve students' writing skill through integrating local culture material. Therefore this study focuses on designing and evaluating teaching writing material for English department students of University Muhammadiyah Metro. The result of this study shows that students have big interest and motivation in writing a text based on their local culture. The students also get moral value and character building through the material. It influences the students' character in their daily life. Students become more polite, honest, diligent and religious.
Non-organic farming is not environmentally friendly, its management operations involve a lot of material that has the potential as a pollutant and free radicals, can affect the quality of the land of agricultural land. This study examines the presence of Cd, Pb heavy metals which can influence the nutrient levels of agricultural land. The study was conducted using the expose facto method, randomly taking 8 types of soil samples of agricultural land products with 4 replications in the agricultural land of Karangrejo Sub-District, Metro Utara, Metro Lampung City, in April 2019. Furthermore, samples were analyzed for the heavy metal content of Cd, Pb, N, P, K in the hope of knowing the relationship related to the availability of nutrients in agricultural land. Regression analysis and T-test showed that there were differences in the influence of the presence and levels of Cd, Pb metals on N, P, K levels in agricultural land. Heavy metals Cd, Pb contribute to suppressing levels of N, P, K in non-organic agricultural land.
This research is a qualitative research with two variables. The classroom action research is conducted at phisics study program of Muhammadiyah University of Metro. The subject of this research is first semester students of physics study program. The number of the students is 22. The objective of this research was to know how cue cards technique improve the students' writing ability in descriptive text. The researcher choose one class because they have problem in writing ability. This research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The data were collected from test (pre test and post test), observation. The result of this research can be seen from the average score of pre test (before treatment) was 61,86, in cycle 1 was 70,90 and in post test cycle 2 was 78. That was involved in upgrading maximally. It implied that cue cards technique can improve the students writing ability in descriptive text. In other words, the class had fulfilled criteria success of standard students competency from the school. It was supported by the observation of the students. From the result of the discussion, the researcher concludes that in this research there is an improvement student writing ability in descriptive text using cue cards technique at the students of physics academic year 2015/2016.
