Este artigo apresenta os resultados de uma etnografia documental cujo objeto de pesquisa foi a profissionalização da enfermagem no Brasil, entre os anos de 1928 e 1931. Com o objetivo de compreender as formas pelas quais os discursos acerca da nova profissão e da nova profissional foram construídos no bojo de sua estruturação no país, o campo etnográfico desta pesquisa desvelou suas raízes profundamente articuladas aos discursos do mito do amor materno, da cristandade e do patriotismo. Considera-se que esses discursos são construções que serviram como dispositivos disciplinares implicados naquela profissionalização, com fortes relações de gênero, classe e raça, que contribuíam para o apagamento das novas profissionais. Em articulação, construiu-se a imagem socialmente aceita e idealizada de uma enfermeira padrão, cujos valores norteavam o serviço a Deus, à pátria e à família.
Objetivo: discutir a utilização do discurso heroico, amplamente disseminado pela mídia durante a pandemia de COVID-19, como referência aos profissionais de enfermagem atuantes na crise sanitária. Metodologia: partiu-se da análise temática qualitativa de matérias jornalísticas publicadas em um portal online de notícias com abrangência nacional, entre março e julho de 2020, e da utilização do conceito de interseccionalidade como categoria analítica, com perspectiva decolonial. Resultados: constatou-se que, articulados à linguagem militar e à política de morte do atual governo brasileiro, essas construções colaboram para o enfraquecimento e invisibilidade da categoria profissional. Conclusão: existem graves problemas associados a essa construção narrativa, uma vez que além de contribuir para a desvalorização e silenciamento da profissão e de seus profissionais, desvirtua discussões críticas sobre questões estruturais enfrentadas por esses últimos. Argumenta-se, ainda, a importância da politização dos profissionais de enfermagem, visto sua frágil formação política, a fim de construírem outras narrativas que consolidem o cuidado de enfermagem como um cuidado político, democrático e consciente de sua inserção no atual contexto da crescente precarização do trabalho no país.
Na busca tradicional pela articulação entre cinema e psicanálise, o filme Pontypool é utilizado neste ensaio teórico como interlocutor entre a monografia de Freud sobre a concepção das afasias, de 1891, e a epidemia causada por uma infecção disseminada através da linguagem, ilustrada pelo filme. As ideias de Freud sobre os distúrbios da linguagem, especialmente sobre sua construção do aparelho de linguagem (Sprachapparat), são utilizadas para refletir e interpretar sobre o possível mecanismo pelo qual se dá a infecção fictícia que atinge os moradores de Pontypool. O contágio pela palavra, através de uma involução do aparelho de linguagem que anula sua função de significação, bem como a possível cura pela palavra, nos remetem à uma relação íntima com a psicanálise, ao resgatar um texto freudiano por vezes esquecido.
