The purpose of this study is to investigate adaptation, validity, and reliability of the Turkish version of the Child and Adolescent Social Support Scale for Healthy Behaviors (CASSS-HB). Methods: The CASSS-HB was translated using translation and back-translation. This was a methodological study conducted with 860 students (11e14 years old). Content and construct validity were assessed to test the validity of the CASSS-HB. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis of the scale was performed and the reliability of the scale over time (the test-retest method) was examined. Results: Psychometric analyses of the Turkish version of the CASSS-HB indicate high reliability and good content and construct validity. Conclusions: It can be seen that the items comprising the scale appear to be acceptably capable of measuring the variable of social support in terms of healthy behavior in children and adolescents. Healthcare professionals can thus use the scale for determining the degree of social support students of the ages 11e14 receive in terms of developing healthy behavior.

Background It's known that overt hypothyroidism increases body fat content and weight. There's limited research about the effect of subclinical hypothyroidism (SH) on body composition in children and the effect of LT4 treatment. We aimed to evaluate body composition parameters in healthy subjects and in children with mild SH (MSH) and determine the effect of LT4 treatment. Methods Sixty‐four healthy children and 32 children with MSH were included. Anthropometric measurements and hormonal parameters were evaluated. Body composition was evaluated using bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA). Patients were put on LT4 treatment. BIA was performed again after 12 months of therapy. Results There was no significant difference between the anthropometric parameters and basal metabolic rate of the healthy children and the MSH group. The percentage of trunk muscle mass (TMM) in the MSH group was lower than in the control group (P < .05). After 12 months of LT4 treatment, the percentage of total fat‐free mass (FFM), TMM and trunk fat‐free mass (TFFM) were increased and percentage of total body fat mass and trunk fat mass were decreased (P < .05). The difference between the percentage of TMM in the MSH group and control group was insignificant after LT4 treatment (P > .05). Conclusions The percentage of TMM in children with MSH was found lower than healthy control group. After LT4 treatment, the percentage of the FFM, TMM and TFFM were increased and the difference between percentage of TMM in children with MSH and healthy controls was insignificant. Our data indicated that MSH might be associated with early changes in body composition parameters.

Purpose Some kinds of foods, by producing an effect like addiction, may trigger overeating. This paper aims to investigate whether excessive chocolate consumption and hunger cause food addiction. Design/methodology/approach Food cravings questionnaire-trait-reduced (FCQ-T-r), food cravings questionnaire-state (FCQ-S) and eating attitude test-26 (EAT-26) scales were used. The relation between chocolate addiction, anthropometric measurements, demographic characteristics, eating behavior of the people were analyzed. The study was conducted on 864 individuals between 17 and 64 years old (men = 327, women = 537). Findings As the body mass index (BMI) of the individuals increased, chocolate craving, chocolate hunger, thought of eating chocolate, lack of control of chocolate increased. Also, significant correlations were determined with BMI, respectively, (r = 0.39; r = 0.32; r = 0.33; r = 0.29; p < 0.001). The lack of control overeating chocolate, craving for chocolate was found to be higher in female participants than in male participants. It was seen that craving for chocolate decreases (r = −0.17; p < 0.001) with increasing age; this was more apparent in male participants compared to female participants. Besides, significant correlation was found (r = 0.76, p < 0.05) between the EAT-26, the craving to eat chocolate in this study. It was seen that individual, who were excessively eager to consume chocolate, exhibited abnormal eating behavior (29.50 ± 12.09). This showed that there is a positive relation (r = 0.08, p < 0.001) between food addiction, eating attitude disorder. Originality/value Food craving increases the consumption of food, especially chocolate, sugar, with high carbohydrate content and energy. This can lead to overeating and being overweight.

Introduction: Food neophobia (FN) is an issue that can affect the food choices and nutritional status of individuals. Objective: This study aimed to determine FN levels of adults and to evaluate the nutritional habits and food consumption frequencies according to these levels. Materials and Methods: The study is cross-sectional and was conducted with 1681 volunteers aged between 20 and 64 years old. The data were obtained by face-to-face interview method using the general characteristics, a food consumption frequency form including 45 types of foods, questions related to eating habits (frequencies of the daily main meal, snack, skipping meal), and the Turkish Form Food Neophobia Scale (T-FNS). Individuals were divided into three groups neophilic, neutral, and neophobic according to their T-FNS scores. Results: Of the participants, 22.8% (n=384) were neophilic, 53.0% (n=890) were neutral, and 24.2% (n=407) were neophobic. The mean T-FNS scores were found to be statistically significantly different in groups gender (t=3.369, p=0.001), age (t=-3.408, p=0.001), educational status (F=8.699, p&lt;0.001), marital status (t=-5.207, p&lt;0.001), employment status (F=5.991, p&lt;0.001), and presence of disease (t=3.467, p=0.001). Mean consumption of meat, egg, and legumes group in neophilics (176.14±96.58 g/day) compared to neutrals (160.30±96.48 g/day), fresh fruit consumption in neophobics (137.38±124.94 g/day) /day) compared to neutrals (107.51±101.57 g/day) were higher (F=4.018 p=0.018, and F=10.668 p=&lt;0.001, respectively). Consumption of cream cheese, margarine, chocolate, fruit juice, and alcoholic beverages also differed between groups (p&lt;0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that FN may affect nutritional status. However, there is a necessity for large-scale studies investigating the relationship between FN and nutritional status.
