El presente artículo tuvo como objetivo buscar la relación que existe entre el autocuidado y la condición de salud del personal de enfermería, que labora en instituciones de salud públicas y privadas de la zona urbana de la ciudad de San Miguel, El Salvador. Para ello, la metodología utilizada fue la hipotética deductiva con un enfoque cuantitativo y un alcance descriptivo. Entre los resultados se identificó que, los profesionales de enfermería jóvenes realizan estrategias de autocuidado, los que padecen alguna patología llevan control y seguimiento; pero existe un grupo significativo que padece sobrepeso, obesidad e hipertensión arterial; aspectos que son determinantes para la salud. De igual forma, se comprobó que la profesión de enfermería es llevada a cabo, en su mayoría, por mujeres. Se concluye que, las enfermeras están sometidas a una doble jornada laboral que puede llevar a un gran desgaste físico, además deben cumplir una segunda jornada laboral en sus hogares, como amas de casa, esposas y madres.
La laguna Olomega es el mayor cuerpo de agua dulce de la región oriental de El Salvador. El presente trabajo persiguió determinar el nivel de contaminación hídrica y del suelo en la laguna Olomega, y su impacto en la salud de sus pobladores. El estudio fue cuantitativo de tipo descriptivo. Las muestras de agua y suelo fueron tomadas en puntos céntricos a la periferia del humedal, por especialistas del Laboratorio Especializado en Control de la Calidad. Los resultados expusieron la alteración del color, el olor, acidez, turbidez, alta concentración de aluminio, hierro y magnesio, así como la presencia de coliformes totales y fecales por encima de los límites máximos permisibles, principalmente de Escherichia coli. La encuesta realizada confirmó que, los pobladores tienen prácticas no amigables con el ambiente y han presentado problemas dermatológicos, gastrointestinales, oftalmológicos y urogenitales. Se concluye que, el proceso de desecho de aguas grises sobre la laguna está ocasionando la contaminación de su ecosistema, con un impacto negativo en la salud humana.
La profesionalización de enfermería a lo largo de la historia en El Salvador ha tenido diferentes facetas y obstáculos hasta reconocerse en la actualidad como una profesión. El presente artículo tuvo por objetivo construir una perspectiva de la evolución histórica de la enfermería en El Salvador, sobre la base de las experiencias y vivencias de profesionales de larga trayectoria. La investigación fue cualitativa, tomándose como referencia las historias de vida. Los datos se obtuvieron mediante el análisis documental y entrevistas semiestructuradas realizadas a cinco profesionales de la enfermería con más de 50 años de servicio, quienes son referentes en esta área a nivel nacional. Se identificó la categoría historia de enfermería en El Salvador, con las subcategorías: etapa empírica de 1902 a 1918; etapa vocacional de 1918 a 1954; etapa técnica de 1958 a 1984; y la etapa profesional desde 1994 hasta la actualidad. Conclusiones: La profesión de enfermería en El Salvador surge con el apoyo de las religiosas Hermanas de la Caridad de San Vicente de Paul, en el año de 1924, y desde entonces, ha experimentado transformaciones significativas desde el propio sistema educativo y el Ministerio de Salud para perfeccionarse como profesión.
Nursing professionalization in El Salvador has experienced various facets and obstacles throughout history until it has been recognized as a profession. The purpose of this article was to develop a historical perspective of the evolution of nursing in El Salvador based on the experiences and life stories of long-time professionals. The research was qualitative, using life stories as a reference. Data were obtained through document analysis and semi-structured interviews with five nursing professionals with more than 50 years of service, considered a reference in the field at the national level. In El Salvador, the nursing history category was identified with the following subcategories: the empirical phase from 1902 to 1918, the professional phase from 1918 to 1954, the technical phase from 1958 to 1984, and the professional phase from 1994 to the present. Conclusions: The nursing profession in El Salvador emerged with the support of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul in 1924, and since then it has undergone significant changes by the educational system itself and the Ministry of Health to improve as a profession.
Objetivo: identificar la influencia del conocimiento en la salud sexual y reproductiva de las estudiantes de enfermería de nuevo ingreso universitario durante el año 2018. Metodología: estudio cuantitativo, descriptivo y observacional, que empleó un cuestionario de preguntas abiertas dirigidas a una muestra aleatoria de 84 estudiantes de enfermería del Instituto Especializado en Profesionales de la Salud, centro regional de San Miguel. Resultados: las adolescentes mostraron conocimientos básicos sobre derechos sexuales y reproductivos, e identificaron prácticas de riesgos; no obstante, en su mayoría no tienen actividad sexual coital, aunque sí valoran la importancia de empoderarse de sus derechos e implementar las prácticas preventivas adecuadas. Conclusiones: las estudiantes de enfermería son vulnerables en cuanto a sus derechos reproductivos, en virtud de su contexto, y a pesar de tener conocimientos sobre ellos, el papel ejercido por la cultura patriarcal determina sus prácticas concretas.
