Reimplantation of primary teeth has been the subject of various clinical and histological studies, but very little is known about the effect of this treatment on primary teeth. The aim of the present study was to histologically evaluate the biological response of dog primary teeth after immediate reimplantation. Twelve dogs were divided into two groups according to postoperative time: 1 week and 3 weeks. Twenty-one upper and lower intermediate incisors were extracted and submitted to endodontic treatment, reimplantation and splinting. The 21 homologous teeth not submitted to treatment served as controls. The animals were killed after the respective experimental periods, and the obtained specimens were processed for histological analysis. Most dogs of the 1-week group exhibited the following alterations: gingival epithelium was inserted in the cemento-enamel junction, with a small number of chronic inflammatory cells being observed in the gingival corium; the periodontal ligament was partially reestablished, with a more expressive chronic inflammatory infiltrate being observed in the apical third; small root resorption was observed on the palatine/lingual side in the apical third. In contrast, in 3-week animals, gingival epithelial insertion was predominantly absent on the buccal side, and a moderate chronic inflammatory infiltrate was present; the periodontal ligament generally showed no bone-cementum reinsertion especially on the palatine/lingual side, with an expressive inflammatory infiltrate in the apical region, and large root resorption was mainly observed on the palatine and lingual sides. In conclusion, reimplantation causes histological alterations in the tooth and its supporting periodontal structures that suggest the impossibility of its maintenance.
Ellis–van Creveld syndrome is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by a tetrad of disproportionate dwarfism, ectodermal dysplasia, postaxial polydactyly, and congenital heart malformations. In this article, we hereby present a case of a 6-year-old Brazilian boy with Ellis–van Creveld syndrome who presented with a remarkable number of classical oral and dental features and uncommon findings such as taurodontism. Clinical examination revealed multiple enamel hypoplasia, absent vestibular sulcus, alveolar serrations in the maxilla anterior region, missing teeth, conical teeth, lower canine rotation, bilateral posterior crossbite, dental caries, and a nodule. Radiographically were observed teeth agenesis, taurodontism of deciduous and permanent molars, and delayed tooth eruption. Clinical and radiographic findings may be present from birth and the pediatric dentist has a fundamental role in the early diagnosis of Ellis–van Creveld syndrome, as well as oral problems prevention, rehabilitation, and aesthetic interventions.

Additionally, a whitish lobulated nodule located in the alveolar ridge in the anterior region of the mandible was noted. Anatomopathological examination was compatible with the diagnosis of peripheral odontogenic fibroma (POF). In a 10‐month clinical follow‐up, no signs of recurrence were observed.ConclusionIn view of the characteristic oral findings of EVC syndrome and the potential for recurrence of POF, the pediatric dentist plays an essential role in clinical follow‐up, planning and preventive, and rehabilitative treatment.

Este estudo transversal controlado avaliou conhecimento dos pais sobre prevenção da cárie dentária, relacionando-o à prevalência desta em seus filhos. Após aprovação pelo comitê de ética do HC/UEL sob parecer 125/09, amostra de 277 pares pais/filhos foi dividida em dois grupos: A -crianças com 5 anos de idade participantes do programa educativo-preventivo da Bebê Clínica da Universidade Estadual de Londrina/PR, e seus pais; B -crianças com 5 anos de idade da cidade de Telêmaco Borba/PR, não participantes de programas educativo-preventivos, e seus pais. Aplicou-se questionário aos pais, verificando perfil socioeconômico, cultural e conhecimento sobre prevenção da cárie. Após, verificou-se índice ceo-d em seus filhos. Os resultados passaram pelo teste qui-quadrado, analisando associações entre as variáveis. As com significância estatística passaram pela regressão de Poisson.A prevalência de cárie foi 22,0% (ceo-d=0,5) em A e 60,4% (ceo-d=2,7) em B.O modelo final de regressão logística identificou: iniciar higiene bucal da criança após 1 ano de idade é fator associado à cárie dentária (RP=3,75 [1,83]) em B. Em A, não foi identificada associação estatisticamente significativa entre as variáveis e cárie dentária. Conclui-se: conhecimento dos pais sobre prevenção da cárie dentária relaciona-se com a prevalência de cárie em seus filhos.Palavras-chave: Cárie dentária; Promoção de saúde; Odontologia preventiva
