Annual production and quality of Brachiaria decumbens pastures deferred and strategies nitrogen fertilization. The aim of this work was to evaluate the production of Brachiaria decumbens deferred for periods of 95 and 140 days. Two experimental trials (95 and 140 days) were carried out and, in each one, four fertilization strategies were studied at the beginning and end of summer (0-0, 100-0, 50-50, 0-100 kg ha -1 of N), respectively, with four replications. The highest (p < 0.05) annual production of dry matter (DM) was verified for the fertilization strategy with 100 kg ha -1 of N applied in early summer (100-0), in pastures deferred for 95 days. However, in autumn, winter and spring, the application strategy of 100 kg ha -1 of N at end of summer (0-100) had greater (p < 0.05) forage production. Daily dry matter production, when compared to that of summer, was reduced by 8, 89 and 58% for autumn, winter and spring, respectively, in the 95-day deferring trial. It can be inferred that the strategy of application of 100 kg ha -1 in late summer is an appropriate strategy to increase dry matter production for grasses in the two studied deferral periods, reducing the curve of seasonal annual forage production.
Palavras-chave: acamamento, adubação nitrogenada, comportamento ingestivo, diferimento de pastagem, estação alimentar Displacement and permanency patterns of grazing cattle on Brachiaria decumbens deferred under four fertilization strategiesABSTRACT -This study was conducted to evaluate the displacement and permanency patterns of grazing cattle on Brachiaria decumbens deferred during 95 days under four strategies of nitrogen application (0-0, 0-100, 50-50, 100-0 kg N.ha -1 ), at the beginning and at the end of the rainy season. During the deferred period, in the dry season, forage yield, canopy structural characteristics, and displacement pattern were evaluated. Four steers were used in Ten grazing tests of 45 minutes and 14 heifers Girolanda, monitored every 10 minutes during 24 hours, were used to evaluate the permanency time. Pastures fertilized with 100 kg N at the end of the rainy season had higher herbage and leaf blade, sward surface height, extended leaf height, sward leaf blade bulk density and stem mass in all canopy layers. The lodging rates were higher for pastures fertilized at the end of the rainy season (0-100 and 50-50). More feeding stations and steps per minute were found in 0-100 and 50-50 fertilization strategies, due t...
ABSTRACT. The experiment was conducted to evaluate losses and nutritive value of elephant grass silage containing increasing levels of cottonseed meal. The experimental design was completely randomized, with five treatments: 0, 7, 14, 21 and 28% inclusion of cottonseed meal, and four replications. The material was chopped and packed in PVC silos and stored for 80 days. The pH and dry matter (DM), crude protein, lignin and ether extract of the silages increased linearly with the addition of cottonseed meal, while the levels of acid detergent insoluble nitrogen, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, cellulose and hemicellulose decreased linearly. The addition of 28% cottonseed meal reduced the in situ disappearance of DM (48h) to values lower than those of silage without additives. The concentration of ammonia nitrogen and the losses from gases and effluent were reduced. The inclusion of 28% cottonseed meal in elephant grass silage containing 18.4% DM improved the fermentation characteristics of silage more efficiently by reducing the moisture content and effluent losses, starting at the 7% level of inclusion. Keywords: by-product, effluent, ensiling, Gossypium hirsutum.
Palavras-chave: acamamento, adubação, densidade de forragem, estrato vertical, massa de forragem, pasto diferido Deferring of Brachiaria decumbens pastures fertilized with nitrogen at the beginning and the end of the rainy seasonABSTRACT -The objective of this research was to evaluate the forage dry matter yield and its morphological components, height and pasture falling index, bulk density and forage nutritional value in Brachiaria decumbens pastures deferred for 95 days under four strategies of nitrogen fertilization. It was studied four strategies of nitrogen application at the beginning and at the end of the rainy season, respectively (0-0, 100-0, 50-50, 0-100 kg N/ha) evaluated in three vertical strata at every 20 cm in a randomized block design in a split-plot arrangement with four replicates. Pastures fertilized with 100 kg N at the end of the rainy season showed greater weights of total forage dry matter, leaf blade and green stem as well as height, extended height and total forage bulk density, leaf blade and green stem in all strata studied. Falling indexes were greater for pastures fertilized at the end of the rainy season (0-100 and 50-50). The percentage of neutral detergent fiber were lower in stratum A (40 cm above ground), and contents of crude protein (CP) were greater in all strata for the treatments 0-100 and 50-50.Although fertilization with 100 kg N at the end of the rainy season allows an increase in the mass of total forage and leaf blades and improvement in the quality of this forage, greater density of stems in the upper strata and the high falling index can characterize difficulties in forage selection and reduction in intake and animal performance.
Palavras-chave: silagem, fermentação, efluente, nitrogênio amoniacal ABSTRACT The effects of the addition of cocoa meal and sugarcane in the elephant-grass silage losses were studied.A 2 x 4 factorial scheme was used, being 0 and 15% of cocoa meal and 0, 15, 30, and 45% of
It is necessary to increase the rates of initial growth of pastures for use during the better planting period. Thus, two experiments were used to evaluate the effect of plant growth regulator (PGR; auxins, gibberellins and cytokinins) in seeds types (coated with polymer coating fungicide and conventional method) and nitrogen fertilization methods in Brachiaria decumbens cv. Basilisk on the germination, growth, development and physiological composition. From the regression estimates, lower levels of PGR (10.3; 12.8; 8.85 and 9.57 ml/kg for germination percentage, germination speed index, leaf and pseudostem, respectively) were recommended in coated seeds when compared to conventional method (untreated seeds, with polymer coating and fungicide). Leaf and pseudostem mass production had a significant interaction effect between seed type and the use of growth regulator. Coated seeds (with fungicide and polymers after scarification) had greater performance with absence or at lower levels (8.85 and 9.57 ml/kg seed) of growth regulators. This was not observed for conventional seeds, the higher doses (15.5 and 18.1 ml/kg) presented higher development for the same characteristics. In second experiment, rates of photoassimilate were increased by soil fertilization and use of PGRs. No influence of foliar fertilization was observed when used exclusively, but N‐fertilization multiple and soil promotes an increase in chlorophyll content and mass yield, respectively. The use of exogenous hormonal compounds acts on the organogenesis of plant tissues and increases the formation of plant tissues and acts in the promotion of germination and development of structures, making it a key tool in pasture establishment.
ABSTRACTThe objective was to evaluate the dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) ruminal degradation of silages of elephant grass; elephant grass ensiled with 30% of sugarcane; 15% of cocoa meal; and 45% of sugarcane plus 15% of cocoa meal. Samples of each silage were incubated in the rumen of three Holstein x Zebu crossbred steers during the periods of 0, 12, 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours. The experimental design used was the one of subdivided parcels and the non linear coefficients a, b and c were estimated through Gauss-Newton interactive procedures. For the elephant grass ensiled with cocoa meal, larger values of DM and CP fraction a were observed, next to 60%, besides the greatest b fraction degradation rates and effective degradability (ED) of CP to passage rates of 2, 5 and 8% h -1 . The silages that showed the largest non-degradable i fractions of NDF were the elephant grass silages without additive and with 30% of sugarcane, while the silage addicted with 45% of sugarcane and 15% of cocoa meal showed up by the largest DM, CP and NDF potential degradation in all of the studied periods, and larger DM and CP ED for passage rates of 2, 5 and 8% h -1. The associated inclusion of sugarcane with cocoa meal at the moment of the elephant grass ensilage comes as an alternative to increase the degradability of forage in advanced growth stage.
The purpose of this study was to examine the growth and senescence dynamics of Digitaria eriantha cv. Survenola as a response to several canopy heights (25, 35, 45, and 55 cm) of harvests in two seasons of the year (rainy and dry). The experiment was established at the Federal University of Sergipe, in São Cristóvão-SE, Brazil, from 03/26/2015 to 03/28/2016, under a randomized-complete-block design with four replicates. Plots were irrigated, and upon reaching the pre-established canopy heights, they were cut to a 10 cm-residual height. Increasing canopy heights in the dry season led to lower tiller density, for basal and aerial tillers. However, irrespective of tiller type and season, this variable increased after the rest period. Light interception rose with canopy heights (P<0.05) in the dry period and it showed a quadratic response in the rainy season. Greater canopy heights led to a higher (P<0.05) daily leaf senescence rates and daily stem growth rates. Regardless of the season, the total accumulation and net herbage accumulation rates of basal tillers increased as canopy heights did. The greatest canopy height promoted the daily stem production, whereas the lowest height did not allow the grass to express its production potential. The defoliation-height range of 35 to 45 cm is the most recommended, as it favors the control of stem growth and leaf senescence.
