The climatic extremes and the dynamics of land use and cover can cause changes in river flow. The objective of this work was to analyze the flow of the Araguaia River under the effects of extreme years associated with the dynamics of land use in the Araguaia Watershed (AW) from 1981 to 2019. The land use and land cover product were based on the MapBiomas Project classification, imported from the Google Earth Engine. The measured rainfall and flow data were obtained from the National Water Agency. In contrast, the estimated rainfall was based on the data Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Stations. The precipitation climatology showed the lowest values (1,464.9–1,720.4 mm) in the south-central sector, and the highest (1,720.4–2,014.6 mm) rainfall amounts were observed in the north sector. However, it was identified in the five pluviometric stations with a high variability of precipitation, with an emphasis on the extreme years. Such wet and dry years were marked by a large difference in water availability. There was an intense reduction of the Amazon and Cerrado biomes by 31,641.8 and 42,618.9 km², respectively, mainly due to the expansion of 18,936.1 km² of agricultural activities and 47,494 km² of pasture. The fluviometric variability showed a decreasing trend, mainly in the past 15 years. Public actions, such as the intensification of environmental policies, monitoring focusing on the most compromised and strategic areas such as the headwaters of the Araguaia River, can minimize the impacts caused by climate extremes and deforestation.
Rainfall estimate from CHIRPS and GPCC data in years of extreme weather, Guamá watershed-PA ABSTRACT Climate change has caused greater frequency and intensity of extreme events around the world. So, hydroclimatic monitoring is essential for understanding the spatial and temporal variability of precipitation, which is generally the meteorological element that conducts natural disasters. The objective of this scientific study is to analyze the performance of the CHIRPS and GPCC datasets in the estimation of the spatial-temporal variability of rainfall in years of climatic extremes in the Guamá watershed. Used the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration climate indices, measured rainfall data from the National Water Agency, an estimated Climate Hazards Group, InfraRed Precipitation with Stations and Global Precipitation Climatology Center dataset. The mean and standard deviation of rainfall over the years was calculated to detect extreme years. Performed statistical calculations to measure the quality of estimated data. Graphs were built to analyze temporal variation and maps in a Geographic Information System environment for the observation of the spatial distribution of estimated rainfall. The statistic showed better correlation for Belém, perfect fit and no significant errors for Irituia, although high underestimation tendencies of the GPCC. Weather indicators are well associated with extreme years. In years of El Niño and positive Dipole, there is a reduction in rainfall, especially in the Southeast region. Though, when there is La Niña and a negative Dipole, there is an increase in rainfall, concentrating in the Northwestern region. There are trends in excess rainfall in the Guamá watershed (CHIRPS), being the most representative product of variability in extreme years. Thus, questions about the extent to which weather events cause greater difficulty in estimating rainfall in areas without measurements need to be further investigated to improve rainfall estimation products.
Environmental Impact Assessment of Solid Waste at the State University of Pará, Pole V - CCNTA B S T R A C TThe environmental theme is at the top of the main world debates, being one of the main concerns the high generation of solid waste from different sources. In Brazil, the National Solid Waste Policy aims to minimize the impacts of solid waste on the environment and Higher Education Institutions must fully commit to sustainability. This study aimed to identify and assess the environmental impacts related to solid waste management at the University of the State of Pará, campus V. For this, Ad Hoc Environmental Impact Assessment methods and an Interaction Matrix adapted to the Analysis of Failure Modes and their Effects were used. Three main locations were found that store waste irregularly on the Campus. The residues were classified according to ABNT NBR 10.004/2004 in Class I, IIA and IIB. It was found that non-inert Class IIB waste is the most generated on Campus V, as it is paper, plastic, metal, scrap, and other waste, which can be recycled. A significant amount of civil construction waste was observed, which form part of class IIB inert waste resulting from changes in the structure of the campus. Finally, it was noted that the greatest environmental impacts caused by the generation of solid waste concerns the contamination of the physical environment, soil and water, with measures to mitigate these impacts being suggested. Therefore, the inadequate management of solid waste at the university is an aggravating factor for the environment. Keywords: Environmental Study; Management; Educational Institution; Diagnosis; Mitigating Measur
