A two years old male cat domestic long hair was brought to the Tabby Pet Care clinic with the owner's complaint that the cat often scratches his right and left ears. The results of clinical examination showed scratching marks on the pinna, blackish yellow, wet, and smelly ear serumen on the ear canal. Investigations include microscopic examination of ear swabs and cerumen swab cytology. Ear swab examination results observed the presence of Otodectes cynotis and Otodectes cynotis eggs. The results of cytological examination of cerumen swabs using the rapid stain method were observed to have bacterial infections in the form of bacilli, coccus, and the presence of neutrophil infiltration. Based on clinical symptoms and the results of investigations, the patient was diagnosed with external otitis with a fausta prognosis. Treatment of otitis externa is carried out with topical therapy Ilium® ear drop. Therapy is carried out for seven days. On the eighth day the patient was declared cured and allowed to go home.
Kucing betina berusia ±1 tahun dengan gejala klinis dysuria, konstipasi, pada bagian perineal terdapat kebengkakan dengan konsistensi kenyal disertai luka. Hasil pemeriksaan darah menunjukkan peningkatan monosit sedangkan hasil pemeriksaan ultrasonografi pada kebengkakan menunjukan gambaran anechogenic berisi cairan. Hasil aspirasi teridentifikasi cairan tersebut adalah urin, sehingga kucing tersebut dapat didiagnosis hernia perineal dengan refleksi vesika urinaria. Tahapan operasi meliputi herniorraphy, reposisi vesika urinaria, dan hernioplasti. Terapi sistemik pasca operasi yaitu Amoxicilin 20 mg/kgBB q12h, Asam mefenamat 16 mg/kg BB q12h, dan multivitamin ½ tab q12h selama tujuh hari. Terapi menggunakan topikal menggunakan povidone iodine 10% dan die da yao jing®. Kucing menunjukkan aktifitas normal setelah 7 hari perawatan.
This study aims to analyze characteristic and calculate the number of bacterial contamination of fresh nila fish from Sawiyoh pond Sidoarjo, East Java. A total of 30 fresh nila fish were taken and examined at the Microbiology Laboratory Faculty of Medicine Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya University. This research is a descriptive study with observational methods. The step of bacterial enrichment was carried out on BPW (Buffered Pepton Water) media. The bacterial identification procedure uses selective media SSA (Salmonella-Shigella Agar), Gram staining, and tests on TSIA media (Triple Sugar Iron Agar). The procedure for calculating the total bacteria using TPC (Total Plate Count) on NA (Nutrient Agar) media. The results on selective SSA media in 30 samples showed suspect Salmonella sp. with the characteristics of colorless colonies with black dots in the middle. The results of Gram staining in 30 samples showed that the bacteria were Gram negative in the form of rods. Test results on TSIA media identified one positive sample of Salmonella sp. (sample 09) with characteristics of the red slope of the media, the base of the media is yellow, and H2S is formed. The results of the calculation of total bacteria by the TPC method showed that the total bacterial total was 15.8 x 105 CFU / gram. The limit of microbial contamination according to the 2009 SNI for fresh fish is 5 x 105 CFU / gram so that fresh nila fish from Sawiyoh Sidoarjo pond has a number of bacterial contamination above the stipulated threshold.Keywords: Nila Fish, Gram Staining, Salmonella sp., Salmonella-Shigella Agar, Total Plate Count, Triple Sugar Iron Agar
<p>Tikus liar merupakan satwa liar yang paling sering bersosialisasi dengan masyarakat dan merupakan salah satu vektor serta penyebar penyakit yang beberapa diantaranya bersifat zoonosis. Pengendalian tikus liar sangat penting dilakukan guna mengurangi terjadinya penyakit zoonosis yang diakibatkan oleh hewan tersebut. Metode yang efektif digunakan sebagai pengendali populasi tikus liar adalah melalui mekanisme antifertilitas. Salah satu bahan yang memiliki mekanisme antifertilitas adalah biji pepaya. Kandungan saponin, flavonoid, alkaloid, dan papain pada biji pepaya terbukti memberikan efek infertil pada mencit dan tikus putih, dimana mencit dan tikus putih merupakan hewan yang semarga dengan tikus liar. Hewan yang semarga memiliki susunan anatomi dan fisiologis yang serupa, sehingga pengaruh antifertilitas tersebut menjadi sebuah prospek untuk mengembangkan biji pepaya sebagai biomaterial pengendali populasi tikus liar. Populasi tikus liar yang dihambat akan berdampak pada penurunan angka kejadian zoonosis dalam masyarakat.</p>
