ABSTRACT Short-term memory is a form of cognitive function to store information in a short time, which is important to support daily work and learning activities. Circadian rhythm is a physical, mental, and behavioral changes that occurs in 24-hour daily cycle which is believed to be a factor that affecting short term memory , for example sleep-wake cycle. This study was aimed to determine the effect of routinity of aerobic on short-term memory in students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Mulawarman. This analytic observational study with cross-sectional method used 94 male respondents at the Faculty of Medicine, Mulawarman University, consisting of the Medical Study Program, Dentistry Study Program, and Nursing with stratified random sampling technique. The research results showed the most circadian rhythm type is night chronotype as many as 71 people (76%) (p=0.031). Short-term memory scores were obtained by 41 people (44%) on good category and 53 people (56%) on bad category. It was concluded that there is an effect of circadian rhythm on short-term memory in Medical Study of The Medical Faculty of Mulawarman University.   Keyword : Circadian rhythm, Short-term memory, Medical student, Scenery Picture Memory Test (SPMT)   ABSTRAK Memori jangka pendek merupakan bentuk fungsi kognitif untuk menyimpan informasi yang tersedia dalam waktu yang singkat dimana hal ini penting untuk menunjang aktivitas pekerjaan maupun pembelajaran sehari-hari. Irama sirkadian adalah suatu perubahan fisik, mental, dan perilaku yang tejadi mengikuti siklus harian 24 jam yang diyakini sebagai faktor yang mempengaruhi memori jangka pendek, contohnya seperti siklus bangun tidur. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh aerobik rutin terhadap memori jangka pendek pada mahasiswa di Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Mulawarman. Penelitian observasional analitik dengan metode potong lintang ini menggunakan 94 responden laki-laki di Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Mulawarman yang terdiri atas Program Studi Kedokteran, Program Studi Kedokteran Gigi, dan D3 Keperawatan dengan menggunakan teknik stratified random sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukan tipe irama sirkadian terbanyak ialah kronotipe malam yaitu 71 orang (76%) dengan nilai p = 0,031. Nilai memori jangka pendek didapatkan 41 orang (44%) dalam kategori baik dan 53 orang (56%) kategori tidak baik. Disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh irama sirkadian terhadap memori jangka pendek pada Mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Mulawarman.   Kata Kunci : Irama sirkadian, Memori jangka pendek, Mahasiswa kedokteran, Scenery Picture Memory Test (SPMT)

Jatuh merupakan kejadian yang sering dijumpai pada lansia dan resiko jatuh meningkat dengan seiring bertambahnya umur. Lansia akan mengalami kemunduran fisik pada sistem muskoloskeletal yang menyebabkan penurunan keseimbangan, sehingga rentan mengalami jatuh. Gangguan keseimbangan penyebab utama terjadi resiko jatuh pada lansia karena gangguan visual, vestibular dan somatosensory. Resiko jatuh pada lansia dapat menyebabkan komplikasi patah tulang bahkan kematian.  Latihan keseimbangan lansia dapat digunakan sebagai salah satu upaya untuk meningkatkan kualitas hidup pada lansia di komunitas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh latihan keseimbangan (forward stepping) terhadap tingkat resiko jatuh pada lansia. Desain penelitian menggunakan pre eksperimen dengan rancangan One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan random sampling dengan jumlah 16 responden dengan kriteria Usia diatas 65 tahun, mobilitas mandiri dan tidak mengalami gangguan pendengaran dan penglihatan. Intervensi yang diberikan berupa latihan keseimbangan forward stepping 3 kali seminggu selama 4 minggu dengan durasi 15 menit. Pengukuran risiko jatuh menggunakan Time Up and Go Test (TUGT). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rerata usia lansia 72,38 ± 3,46 tahun, dengan  jumlah lansia perempuan lebih banyak 12 (75%) daripada laki-laki. Risiko jatuh sebelum diberikan latihan lansia termasuk dalam kategori ringan dengan rata-rata nilai TUGT adalah 17,06 detik dan sesudah latihan terjadi penurunan menjadi rata-rata 13,24 detik. Uji Wilcoxon Test menunjukkan adanya pengaruh antara latihan keseimbangan (forward stepping) terhadap resiko jatuh pada lansia dengan dengan p-value = 0,000 < 0,05. Kesimpulan: Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa latihan keseimbangan (foward stepping) dapat menurunkan risiko jatuh pada lanjut usia.

Recently, magnetite was investigated as water purification adsorbent because it’s unique magnetic properties that improved the adsorption efficiency through desorption process. But magnetite oxidized into maghemite/hematite with the increase of temperature. This transformation should be avoided to maintain the magnetic properties of magnetite. In this research magnetite separated from iron sand by magnetic extraction then coated with silica via sol gel method. The effect of drying temperature in sol gel had change the magnetite core structure into maghemite and found no formation of hematite at 350⁰C. Silica coating proved had protected magnetite from transformation into hematite due to drying temperature until 350⁰C .

AbstractIn this study, we successfully coated cetyltrimethylammonium–silica on magnetite. The material produced is used to degrade phenol waste in the waters. The effect of the addition of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) on the ability of phenol adsorption was assessed through changes in CTAB concentration of 1, 5, and 10 mM. The results of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy explain that CTAB has electrostatic interactions with the silica surface, which is induced by opposite-loaded patches on the opposite surface of silica oxide. The results of the vibrating sample magnetometer show that the magnetite that has been coated by silica–CTA has magnetic properties that are weaker than the initial magnetite, which indicates that the silica–CTA layer has blocked the magnetite. Based on the measurement of the gas sorption analyzer, the largest pore size is in the micro-mesh region, which is between 2 and 6 nm. All magnetite-silica–cetyltrimethylammonium (MS–CTA) showed good adsorption ability of phenol and correlated with the amount of loaded CTAB and admicelle density of the adsorbent. The amount of phenol adsorbed increases proportionately with the increasing density of CTAB admicelles. The maximum phenol adsorption capacity (0.93 mg g−1 adsorbent) is achieved by MS–CTA prepared at a CTAB concentration of 10 mM.

Smartphones which are very useful in human life can cause health related problem due to excessive and improper use. The improper duration and distance when using smartphone will cause symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). This study used a cross – sectional approach with an observational analytic research design to determine the relationship between duration and distance of smartphone's usage with the symptoms of CVS in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Mulawarman University, Samarinda. Sources of research data in this study is primary data obtained through questionnaires with a Google form. The sample in this research is students of Faculty of Medicine, Mulawarman University, which amounted to 177 students consisting of Study Programs of Medicine, Dentistry, and D-3 Nursing. Bivariate analysis was done using Chi – Square test. The results of the research showed that many students of the Faculty of Medicine, Mulawarman University, Samarinda experienced symptoms of CVS (82.5%), the symptoms of CVS is experienced by many students (73,4%) who use a smartphone with duration of  ? 4 hours / day (p = 0.000) and 59.9% viewing distance of < 29,2 cm (p = 0.001). It was concluded that there is a relationship between the duration and distance of smartphone’s usage with the symptoms of CVS in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Mulawarman University, Samarinda Key Words : Duration, Viewing Distance, Computer Vision Syndrome, Smartphone

Breast cancer is the most type of cancer that affects women in worldwide. The high mortality rate due to breast cancer is caused by the large number of cancer patients who have just arrived at an advanced stage. Breast self-examination (BSE) is an effort to detect breast cancer as early as possible so that it can reduce morbidity and mortality, in which predisposing factors including the level of knowledge can affect a person's willingness to perform breast cancer screening. This study aimed to determine the level of knowledge about breast cancer and BSE behaviour in students of Medical, Faculty of Medicine, Mulawarman University Samarinda. This research was a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. Data sources were primary. Primary data was obtained by using a questionnaire instrument that was filled out via google form. Secondary data was obtained from the data archive of the number of female students kept by the Academic and Student Affairs subdivision. The research sample were 111 students of the Medical, 4th year class (37,8%), 3rd year class (35,1%), and 2nd year class (27%), Faculty of Medicine, Mulawarman University Samarinda. The result showed that the level of knowledge about the breast cancer in the low category was 3 (2.7%), the medium category was 44 (39.6%), and the high category was 64 (57.7%). The poor BSE behaviour was in 13 (11.7%), good enough behaviour was 70 (63.1%) and excellent behaviour was 28 (25.2%). The conclusion is most of the medical students already had good knowledge about breast cancer and good enough BSE behaviour.

Myopia is refractive abnormality which occurs when eyes are relax and the lights come in parallel, will be refracted at one point in front of the retina. The most significant risk factors for myopia are near work activities. In addition,  spending time outdoors  has been reported to reduce the risk of developing myopia. The research aimed to identify the differences of Risk Factors of myopia in Medicine student with Student of Physical Education, Medical and Recreation in University of Mulawarman Samarinda. This research was an analytic observasional study with Cross Sectional research design. The research subject were 162 students consisted of 81 Medicine student and 81 Student of Physical Education, Medical and Recreation by using techniques stratified random sampling. Mann Whitney test was used to analyze the result of the research. The results of this research showed that 58 people (71.6%) were female and 19 years old as many as 28 people (34.6%) more commonly found in Medicine student that in Student of Physical Education, Medical and Recreation. The majority of students did near work activities which were not good at 77 people (95,1%) in Medicine student and 74 people (91.4%) in Student of Physical Education, Medical and Recreation. Good outdoor activities were more for Student of Physical Education, Medical and Recreation, which was 74 people (91.4%). 49 people (60.5%) had myopia with mild level as much 41 people (83.7%) in Medicine student. The different test showed a value p=0.350 for near work activities, and p=0.000 for outdoor activities and the frequency of myopia. It can be concluded that there was no difference in near vision activities and there was a difference in outdoor activities and the frequency of myopia on Medicine student with Student of Physical Education, Medical and Recreation in University of Mulawarman Samarinda.
