The quality of saliva can have the effect of changingin the environment of oral cavity including teeth, composition of saliva, changes in the growth of plaqueattached to the surface of the tooth. The occurrence of plaque buildup is the beginning of several diseases of the oral cavity with caries and periodontal disease. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the growth of dental plaque and salivary quality, in terms of salivary flow rate and salivary viscosity in elderly children 6-9 years. This type of research is an observational analytic with cross sectional design. The subject of this study is the amount of 70 respondents who examined the salivary flow rate and the saliva viscosity. The technique sampling is purposive sampling. Identification of dental plaque was measured by plague score, salivary flow rate and salivary viscosity were measured by Universal GC. The result showed that 62% of respondents had a plaque score with poor criteria with 57% of respondents having a stream of saliva with slow criteria and 47% of respondents having a salivary viscosity with thick criteria. The results of the analysis using Liniermaka Regression showed that there was a correlation between plaque scores and salivary flow rates with p = 0.037 and viscosity with p = 0.022.Conclusion: there was a relationship between the dental plaquescore and the salivary flow rate and salivary viscosity.
TITLEThe potency of chemical composition of purple sweet potatoes (Ipomoea batatas L) as dental plaque identification agent on dental surfacesABSTRACTOn dental surface always been formed a transparent layer which firmly attached, known as dental plaque layer. Plaque on the tooth surface can be used as one indicator of oral hygiene. To determine the presence of plaque necessary dyes which can stain the surface of the plaque. Purple sweet potato has a natural dye that is anthocyanin. This study aims to determine the potential of the chemical content of purple sweet potato (ipomoea batatas l,) as the material identification of the presence of plaqueThis study research method was Experimental Research and Posttest Only Design as research approach. Sampling used with total Sampling methods and the number of respondents was 30 people. All respondents subjected twice treatment who gets purple sweet potato solution and hatching materials disclosing solution as a positive control at different times. Results showed Purple sweet potato can be used as identification of the presence of plaque on the tooth surface and of the test statistic test Independent t test, obtained p 0.000 means there are differences of influence between the material of purple sweet potato with materials disclosing solution as the material identification of the presence of dental plaque. Further research is recommended in order to do the maximum staining on the surface of the plaque then seek to have the concentration of anthocyanin dyes are more concentrated. Maintenance of dental and oral hygiene is very important for dental and oral health. The OHIS value can be used as an indicator of dental and oral hygiene. Children with special needs are children who have limitations in one or several abilities. The need for the role of a mother is not a short period so there must be a sense of togetherness in the community to foster togetherness and care for children with special needs, PoskesGi is a forum for Peer Group activities which is a form of community empowerment where the participants are family communities who have children with special needs. The purpose of this study was the influence of the form of peer groups as a means of fostering parental involvement in the maintenance of dental and oral hygiene of children with special needs. The research is descriptive analytic by using a cross sectional study design approach and the sampling technique is the total sampling method. The data analysis method used was statistical calculations using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that there was a significant difference (p, 0.05) between OHIS before and after the involvement of parents in the Peer Group in the family community of Children with Special Needs. The conclusion is that there is an influence of parental involvement in Peer Group activities for the Children with Special Needs community in changing the OHIS value of children with special needs. Keywords: Community Empowerment, PosKesGi, Peer Group, OHIS for children with special needs
Saliva can be used for early detection of Diabetes Mellitus (DM). The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between salivary glucose level of patients with type 2 DM on periodontal tissue and to compare it with non DM condition. Observational analysis with cross sectional study was the design used with 40 patients in each group as samples. Periodontal conditions were examined using a dental probe and salivary glucose levels with Eppendorf Ecom 6125 Photometer. The data was analysed statistically with Spearman test to find the relationship between salivary glucose level and periodontal condition and Mann Whitney U Test to compare DM and non DM groups. Cofficient value of Spearman was 0.86, there was a strong correlatiom between salivary glucose level and periodontal condition. Salivary glucose level of DM patients was 8.55 and the control groups was 1.85 (p=0.02). Higher salivary glucose level would increase severity of periodontal tissue status.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
