The purpose of this research was to determine the somatotype profile and body composition of team members of Soles de Mexicali from the Mexican professional basketball league season 2012. A descriptive cross-sectional study in which 10 members of that team are evaluated to determine the somatotype and body composition, they were assessed with anthropometric variables in accordance with ISAK (International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry was performed) the equipment used was the Tom Kit Rosscraft Inc. The somatotype and body composition were determined through measurements of body weight (cm), height (cm), eight skinfolds (mm) triceps, sub scapular, biceps, iliac crest, supra spinal, abdominal, front thigh, medial calf, eleven circumferences (cm) arm relaxed, flexed arm, forearm, wrist, chest, low waist, high hip, thigh, buttock 1 cm, mid-thigh, calf and ankle, and two bone diameters (cm) humeral and femur. The data were processed or through Life Size Software Sports Scientific Reynolds. The following data are reported in the first reference of the Mexican league players assessed a somatotype 2.94-6.35-2.06 average and the percentage of body fat of the subjects tested was 14.46%. The values found in this study indicate a significant an optimal state of body fat percentage and somatotype similar when is compared with existing studies on national teams and international basketball.
Abstract. Introduction: As people age, muscles decrease in size and strength. Loss of muscle mass can cause a general decrease of metabolic function associated with low anabolic hormone production and risk of injury. The decrease in serum levels of GH and IGF-1 due to aging can provoke fragility by contributing to the loss of muscle mass and strength. Purpose: To determine the effect of a strength training program on IGF-1 in older adults with obesity and controlled hypertension. Method: a sample of 8 older adults with obesity and controlled hypertension performed 6 weeks of strength training with intensities of 70% 1RM and 10RM, with a frequency of 4 times per week. Prior to the protocol of Training, triglycerides, cholesterol, blood glucose IGF-1, and anthropometric measures (size, weight, % fat and muscle mass) were determined. The test of one maximum repetition (1rm) was performed to evaluate maximum force in upper and lower limbs before and after the training program. Results: A significant increase (p <0.05) was observed in serum IGF-1 levels after the completion of training program. Conclusion: Strength training with intensities of 70% of 1RM and frequency of 4 days/week, carried out for 6 weeks, produced increases in serum IGF-1 concentration and increased muscle strength in older adults with obesity and controlled hypertension.
The aim of this study is to analyze the psychometric properties of the learning perception questionnaire (CPA) presented in this research. It was administered to a total of 1496 students in Baja California and Nuevo León, of the total sample, 748 were girls (Mage = 14.0, SD = 0.3), and 748 boys (Age = 14.1, SD = 0.3). The analyses support the hypothesized theoretical model of origin, presenting an acceptable internal consistency and temporal stability. The model fit data was excellent; furthermore, the examined model meets the convergent validity requirements. External validity was explored by examining the predictive relationship of the scale studied with Satisfaction with School. The CPA has a strong predictive relationship with student satisfaction/fun in class, while it is negative with boredom. Thus, the higher the perception of learning, the less likely that students will be bored in class. It is concluded, therefore, that the CPA scale is a proven instrument and that it serves to assess the perception of key learning by secondary school students.
