In the 1993, Richard Dawkins, a critical evolutionary biologist of creationism and intelligent design, professor of public understanding at Oxford University, wrote a rather provocative letter to the editor of The Independent. Some extracts from the letter:

Este artigo apresenta uma introdução ao tema do grotesco como paradigma teórico para leitura de narrativas do cristianismo primitivo. Objetivamente, propõe um exercício de aplicação do que vem se desenvolvendo no campo da arte e da literatura como uma “teoria do grotesco” à narrativa da metamorfose do leopardo e do cabrito descrita nos atos 8 e 12 dos Atos Apócrifos de Felipe. Para tanto, lida com noções de cruzamento de fronteiras, permeabilidade, impermanência, contraintuitividade e limites da identidade projetadas em relação ao corpo — ou, como preferimos, o grotesco traumático.
