The objective of this qualitative study that followed the principles of the Grounded Theory was to understand the commitment of nurses in the care provided in primary health care to people with tuberculosis. The setting consisted of eight primary health care units. A theoretical sample was designed with 28 participants, including nurses, doctors, nursing assistants, technical staff, epidemiological surveillance professionals and people with tuberculosis. In-depth interviews were used for data collection. Data were analyzed using the Atlas.ti(r) software, by means of open, axial and selective coding. The singularities of care demanded commitment from the nurses towards tuberculosis patients, and included three components: the ethical-professional, the institutional-political and the social. This commitment was considered to be the driving force of a service that strives to guarantee quality care and access to tuberculosis patients, so that the disease is treated and patients can recover, have a healthy life and attend their social roles satisfactorily.
Objective: to develop a theoretical model about the care of children with Congenital Zika Virus Syndrome in the family context. Method: the Straussian Grounded Theory and the theoretical/philosophical framework of Callista Roy and Leonardo Boff were used. It was carried out in northeastern Brazil, with 19 participants, in four sample groups. The data were collected and analyzed simultaneously, using the constant comparison method. Results: the theoretical model comprising the mother’s care for the child with Congenital Zika Virus Syndrome in the family context is formed by five categories: revealing family care, centered on the mother, to the child with the syndrome; identifying the maternal bond that determines the care for children with the syndrome in the family context; identifying the factors that hinder the mother’s care for the child with the syndrome; recognizing the evolution of the child with the syndrome in the face of early stimulation care; and recognizing harms due to the absence of early stimulus to children with the syndrome. Conclusion: the phenomenon runs through the care of the child with Congenital Zika Virus Syndrome, in the family context and centered on the mother, and is faced with the need for shared responsibility among the family members.
The objective was to build the profile of people affected by TB and describe how the disease presents itself in the city of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. It outlined a descriptive epidemiological study, with reported cases of tuberculosis in the National Notifiable Diseases System between 2006 and 2010. 2,632 cases were reported, by year of diagnosis. Disease incidence was greater when compared with national and other studies. The disease has shown cure rates slightly below the national figures. Diseases associated to the tuberculosis were present. Certain population groups are more likely to develop the disease in the city, most cases occurring among men in their economically active age group, and less profitable occupations. The existence of health professionals with tuberculosis was shown. The disease is highlighted in the social and economic context of the region and presents itself as a health problem to be faced by health professionals, health managers and population.
