As respostas originaram quatro eixos centrais: o brincar, o espaço escolar, as atividades de vida diária, e a Órtese Atlanta Brace. The etiology remains incompletely understood and is manifested by pain, lameness in gait and limitation of hip movements. To its treatment, the Atlanta Brace Orthosis is used, however it causes physical discomfort, mental stress and can interfere in the infantile corporality. This case study aimed to identify and describe the perception of a child with LeggCalvé-Perthes disease in relation to the use of the Atlanta Brace Orthosis. When a semi-structured qualitative questionnaire was used, it was possible to understand the child's perception of the use of the orthosis. To this understanding, the content analysis technique was used. The answers originated four central areas: the play, the school environment, the activities of daily living, and the Atlanta Brace Orthosis. Lastly, our findings visualized that the use of the orthosis generated infantile dissatisfaction, which presented difficulties in the play and in the activities of daily life, facilitated the suffering by bullying in the school and harmed the child's corporeality.
The occurrence of two or more patients with Down syndrome owing to simple trisomy in the same kindred is rare; however, it is much more common than would be expected on the basis of the product of the frequency of the condition. We report the occurence of trisomy 21 in three maternal first cousins (two males and one female). Mothers' ages at birth of the patients were 25, 34, and 26 years; ages of the patients at examination were 28, 23, and 24 years; total number of pregnancies (and spontaneous abortions) by their mothers was 4 (l), 7 (0), and 7 (3); pregnancy order of the patients was third, sixth, and third. Parents' chromosomes are normal. Our data concur with the hypothesis that nondisjunction is not a random phenomenon and that it is controlled by some kind of genetic predisposition.
