The sample was composed of 189 elderly women and 50 elderly men, divided into three age ranges (60 to 64 years, 65-69 years and 70 or older). Physical fitness was evaluated by Senior Fitness Test and quality of life by WHOQOL-OLD questionnaire. For intragroup and intergroup comparisons between different age ranges and gender was used analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Tukey post hoc test for multiple comparisons, with significance level of p<0.05. Results showed that there was no difference in BMI between gender in different age ranges of elderly from UTA (p>0.05). Nevertheless, elderly men of 65 years or more were with overweight and obesity, and elderly women only between 60 to 64 years. In the physical fitness, elderly man did not showed differences between age ranges and gender in most test (p>0.05).Were presented values below average in most physical fitness tests of elderly from UTA compare to American elderly in different age ranges and gender. The score of 66.16% showed that the samples of elderly were satisfied with the overall quality of life. In conclusion, physical fitness of elderly that attending a University of the Third Age are below average and the elderly are satisfied with the quality of life. Keywords: Elderly. Physical fitness. Stages of behavior change and physical activity barriers in morbid obese subjects Estágios de mudança de comportamento e barreiras para a atividade física em obesos mórbidosAbstract -The objective of this study was to identify the stages of behavior change (SBC) in physical activity and the prevalence of barriers to physical activity in morbid obese subjects before (retrospective) and after bariatric surgery. An interview was conducted with 30 patients of both gender ranging in age from 23 to 61 years (39.4 ± 10.5 years), who underwent bariatric surgery at the University Hospital of the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Florianópolis. Descriptive statistics and the nonparametric McNemar test were used for data analysis, with the level of significance set at 5%. Most subjects were women (80.0%), married (73.3%), received three minimal wages (53.5%), and had incomplete elementary school (50.0%). The mean body mass index was 46.9 ± 6.39 kg/m 2 before surgery and 32.4 ± 6.09 kg/m 2 after surgery. Analysis of SBC showed that 40.0% of the subjects were in the contemplation stage, 20.0% in the preparation stage, 23.3% in the action stage, and 16.7% in the maintenance stage, indicating that the subjects had the intention to or already performed some physical activity. With respect to physical activity barriers, there was a significant reduction in all physical barriers and in most behavioral barriers after surgery. Bariatric surgery positively contributed to decrease most physical activity barriers, but few subjects were regularly active. The development of programs that permit and encourage physical activity in this population is necessary in order to contribute to weight maintenance, in addition to other health benefits.

First aid performed properly can minimize the aggravations and even save lives. In the school context, emergency situations are part of the daily life and it is essential that Physical Education Teachers have a basic knowledge to carry out the school needs. This study verified the Physical Education (PE) Teachers knowledge from Santa Cecilia-SC public teaching related to first aid. It featured in descriptive nature, transversal, with quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data. Eleven PE teachers participated of the study. For the data collection, it was developed a questionnaire addressing conceptual aspects, procedures and attitudes concerning professional daily life. From the total, only one teacher did not have the first aid subject at the college. Teachers in their minority feel able to provide the first aid and even take on the situations, showing satisfactory theory knowledge, however in real life they feel insecure to act on before serious situations. It points out that more than 80% know how to act before less aggravating calls. Nonetheless, during cardiopulmonary arrest (CPR) and hemorrhages, they reported the need of an updated training. Mainly in children, they do not feel safe to provide the aid. It was possible to conclude that Physical Education Teachers showed a satisfactory level of knowledge in theory, however it suggest courses periodic updates.

Keywords: First Aid.
