Abstract:The description of academic stress and tendencies of using coping strategies in the gifted students. This study aims to describe the general conception of an academic stress of gifted students, tendencies of coping strategies they use, and to plan an appropriate guidance and counseling program to manage an academic stress of gifted students. This study used a descriptive method with nonprobability sampling technique and specifically took the sample by using purposive sampling. The sample is collected from gifted students of tenth-graders at SMA Negeri 4 Bandung year 2015/2016. The result showed that academic stress of gifted students is in the medium category with a percentage of 76.92. On the other hand, the tendencies of the gifted students on using coping strategies showed that the students tend to use Emotion Focused Coping, with a percentage of 53.84%. This shows that gifted students need a special attention on how to cope with problems so that it does not result in a negative way. Therefore, an appropriate service that is suitable for the needs of gifted students is required. The recommendation from this study is addressed to the school's guidance and counseling committee, teachers, and other researchers.
The study aimed to evaluate the Advanced Progressive Matrices (APM) with a Rasch analysis to enhance the precision of the instrument. Accurate assessment of a student potential ability is essential for the timely provision of guidance and counseling support. The Advanced Progressive Matrices (APM) is an ordinal measure possessing acceptable psychometric properties, but its ability to discriminate precisely between individual potential levels has not been rigorously investigated. The quantitative approach involved respondent of 12,343 students in West Java, Indonesia. The data analysis used the partial credit Rasch model. This study uses Raven's Advanced Progressive Matrices instruments. The results of this study which are achieved through Initial analysis supported the use of the Rasch model and acceptable reliability (Alpha Cronbach= 0.85) was observed. Person reliability is 0.86, item reliability is 1.00. Local dependency between items through the creation of super-items increased model fit, person separation index = 2.35, and unidimensional. In fit and outfit statistics, all items satisfied the criterion for construct validity. Almost all items except 17, 21, and 36 had suitable point-measurement correlation, reflecting content validity. Item characteristic curves indicated that roughly 36 items were evenly distributed along the person ability continuum. The modified APM showed excellent reliability for a measure in assessing the overall potential ability of the students. The item would be added related to the person ability estimates. And several items should be omitted to ensure construct validity. Practically, APM is still relevant to assess the potential ability.
Introduction: Along with massive developments in various aspects of life, mental health is one of the issues that must be discussed to encourage optimal development of an individual. To achieve these goals, we need an instrument that can measure and determine the mental health needs of humans precisely. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted using a cross-sectional method with a quantitative research design. Participants in this study were adolescent students from Indonesia and Malaysia. The American Mental Health Screening Tool adapted to Indonesian and Malaysian conditions is used as an instrument to measure mental health. There were 359 people from Indonesia and 171 people from Malaysia participating in this study. This type of parameter needs to be identified by the category coefficient of the RASCH scoring function model for polycotomic responses. Results and Discussion: The results showed that the American Screening Tools Mental Health instrument had a unidimensionality value below 15%, which means that the variables on the instrument were able to describe mental health. A total of 4 items were invalid so only 59 items could be used to measure mental health. Cronbach alpha value, which is 0.71 indicates that the instrument has good reliability. The average ability of participants from Indonesia and Malaysia was in the moderate category, but 39 participants from Malaysia and 18 participants from Indonesia gave answers that did not match their ability Conclusion: The screening tool instrument is able to describe the variables about mental health. These instruments tend to only describe the mental health of participants who fall into the medium and high categories.
PROFIL OF PEDAGOGIC AND PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELORS IN BANDUNG CITY. This study aims to get a profile and description of pedagogic and professional competencies of guidance and counseling teachers (counselor) in Bandung. The research used the quantitative approach with survey methods. The population of this research is 127 counselors of the senior high school in Bandung. The Instrument was the development of Permendiknas No. 27 Tahun 2008 concerning Academic Qualification Standards and Counselor Competencies with ten aspects related to pedagogic and professional competencies. Data analysis techniques in this research are descriptive analysis techniques. The result of the research shows that the profile of counselors is in the competent category but in several aspects need some developed. The result of the research can be used as a need assessment for supervisor in understanding counselors competencies so that it can be used as a basis to provide guidance and counseling services effectively and efficiently.
Background: The supervisory working alliance has a role in facilitating guidance and counseling supervisors in providing understanding of how the service works. Measuring the level of supervision work alliance is one way that can be done to find out whether a supervisor has a good supervisory work alliance or not. Objective: The research aims to describe the quality of the Supervision Work Alliance Scale (SWAS) instrument. Materials and Methods: The study employed a cross-sectional method with a quantitative research design. Participants in this study were counseling teachers implementing the internship program with 17 males and 55 females. This type of parameter needs to be identified by the category coefficient of the RASCH scoring function model for polycotomic responses. Results: The results show that as many as 34 items proved to be compatible with SWAS instruments. The cronbach alpha of the instrument was 0.91 which means that the all items were in the high category of reliability. The misfit items were only 5,88, so all of the items in SWAS were well understood by the participants. Conclusion: The development of SWAS instrument is valid and reliable, so it can be used to measure the variable of the supervisory work alliance
