Therefore we can consider the hydroalcoholic extract of Solanum cernuum Vell as practically non-toxic in acute administration and safe in the sub-chronic administration, as hepatotoxicity was observed only with the highest dose used, not with the dose routinely used by the native population.

Fasciolosis is a zoonotic disease that infects especially ruminants and the liver damages in chronic infection caused by the parasite are very severe. The aim of this study was to evaluate the histopathological findings in liver of cattle naturally infected with Fasciola hepatica, as well as propose a classification of liver damage caused by this disease based on the chronic inflammation and fibrosis. Were used fragments of the right lobe and left of one hundred livers the cattle. Those fragments were subjected to histological processing and staining with haematoxylineosin and Masson's trichrome. Assigned to graduate I to III for the classification of lesions according to the intensity of the inflammatory and fibrotic changes. The lesions more prevalent were biliary duct proliferation, mononuclear cell infiltration, arteriosclerosis, and periportal and periductal fibrosis. Fibrotic lesions were more intense than the inflammatory and 45% of the samples belonged to category II, followed by 39% in category I and 16% in category III. The proposed categorization of pathological liver injury in chronic fasciolosis in naturally infected cattle proved is a valuable method of microscopic evaluation, since it allows determining the evolution of this disease. Foram utilizados fragmentos do lobo direito e esquerdo de 100 fígados bovinos com fasciolose. Atribuiu-se a graduação de I a III para a classificação das lesões, de acordo com a intensidade das alterações inflamatórias e fibróticas. As lesões mais prevalentes foram a proliferação do ducto biliar, infiltração de células mononucleares, arteriosclerose e fibrose periportal e periductal. RESUMO DM, DS and DMS (P<0.05), which represented approximately 9.25%, 19.26 and 16.65%, respectively, from initial IMCC (P<0.05). In conclusion, the diet influences the IMCC but not affect body weight. The race is a determining factor on the IMCC. In both sexes, there are no significant difference in body weight between treated DM, DS or DMS.

O presente estudo objetivou avaliar a adição de óleo essencial de orégano como agente antimicrobiano e no desempenho de frangos de corte. Utilizou-se 250 pintos de corte, machos, da linhagem Cobb, que foram distribuídos em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado em grupos de cinco tratamentos e cinco repetições, com 10 aves cada: dieta com antibiótico e anticoccidiano (controle positivo); dieta sem antibiótico e anticoccidiano (controle negativo); dieta contendo apenas antibiótico; dieta com 0,5g de óleo de orégano; dieta com 1,0% de óleo de orégano. Foi observada uma menor freqüência de bactérias gram-positivas no íleo de frangos de corte tratados sem promotor de crescimento comparado com os grupos controle positivo ou com óleo de orégano (p < 0,01). Dentre as bactérias gram-positivas, os Lactobacillus apresentaram uma maior taxa de crescimento no íleo de frangos tratados com promotor de crescimento ou com 1g de óleo de orégano/kg de dieta. Porém, nos animais tratados com 0.5g de óleo de orégano foi verificada uma menor taxa de crescimento de Lactobacillus comparado com os tratados com 1g de óleo de orégano (p < 0,05), não diferindo do grupo controle negativo (p > 0,05). A adição de 1g de óleo de orégano/kg de dieta resultou em um menor peso relativo dos intestinos (p < 0.05), que não diferiu do grupo controle positivo (p > 0.05). Os resultados mostraram que a adição de 1g de óleo de orégano/kg de dieta exerceu um efeito antimicrobiano verificado por meio da redução do peso relativo dos intestinos e pelo aumento na frequência de Lactobacillus.

This study, conducted in Anchieta in the south of the state of Espírito Santo, aimed to investigate the presence of brucellosis in cattle slaughtered in a slaughterhouse inspected by the State Inspection Service (S.I.E) and the association between the lesions found in the cervical mucous membrane and the disease. Were collected 1081 blood samples in the period from february to August 2013, of these, 38 (3.52 %) specimens showed granulomatous lesions in the cervical mucous membrane type, cervical ligament and possibly the adjacent musculature. Of these, only 02 (5.26 %) samples were positive for brucellosis in rose Bengal test (AAT), however of the 1034 (95.65%) samples without injury 09 (0.86%) also showed positive in the AAT. To find out whether there was a association between the lesions found and the presence of brucellosis (P>0.05). These data do not explain the association of brucellosis with granulomatous lesions found along the cervical ligament in post-mortem inspection, which suggests the presence of an agent other than Brucella abortus

This study evaluated the effectiveness of pink pepper meal supplementation (PPM) in the dairy goats diet as an antiparasitic agent compared with ionophore, the monensin sodium. A total of 18 female Saanen goats, were distributed in a completely randomized in groups of three treatments and six replications, consisting of the experimental groups: negative control (did not receive anticoccidial agent or PPS), group 1 (supplemented with 30% of PPM) and group 2 (supplemented with anticoccidial agent -monensin sodium). There was a significant effect of treatments on voluntary feed intake on growing phases (P ≤ 0.05). Furthermore, the animals treated with PPM had the lowest food consumption compared with the other treatments (P ≤ 0.05), but without negative effect on live body weight. In general, at both phases of rearing, it was not detected significant difference between the voluntary feed intake of control group and with monensin sodium supplementation (P > 0.05), but the food consumption in the control group did not result on increase of live body weight probably due to sanitary challenges such as gastrointestinal parasites. The opposite was observed in animals treated with monensin sodium that had the highest body weight (P ≤ 0.05) that did not differ from animals fed with pink pepper (P > 0.05). By the way, in the growth phase our results revealed significantly effect of treatments on live body weight (P ≤ 0.05). Animals fed with pink pepper supplementation had a greater live body weight compared with the control (P ≤ 0.05) and similar to those supplemented with the monensin sodium (P > 0.05). The number of oocysts per gram of faeces was lower in animals treated with PPS that differed significantly from control (P ≤ 0.05). Regarding the count number of eggs per gram of faeces OPG, it was not detected significant effect of treatments (P> 0.05). It was found that the pink pepper supplementation was effective in the control of gastrointestinal parasites of goats, mainly on protozoa family Eimeriidae, revealing potential for use in alternative parasite control programs. Concomitantly also it was showed maximizing animal performance by high live body weight even with the reduction of voluntary feed intake.
