The problem faced by the partners namely elementary school teachers in SD 05 Ragunan Jakarta, is the low confidence of elementary school students in public speaking through speech techniques. Meanwhile the ability to perform a skills has become a mandatory stage that must be passed in the school exam for graduation. Referring to these problems, charitable activities are carried out by giving speech skills to increase students' confidence level in public speaking at SD 05 Ragunan Jakarta. The methods of implementation that will be covered in these activity are: (1) providing training to overcome nervousness,and (2) training and mentoring in speech practice. The result of the activity is an improvement in the partner's knowledge and skills, so students became more confident and able to perform in public. Sementara itu kemampuan untuk melakukan keterampilan berpidato telah menjadi tahap wajib yang harus dilalui dalam ujian sekolah untuk kelulusan. Berangkat dari permasalahan tersebut maka kegiatan pengabdian dilakukan dengan memberikan ketrampilan berpidato untuk meningkatkan kepercayaan diri para siswa untuk berbicara di depan umum di SD 05 Ragunan Jakarta. Metode pelaksanaan yang dilakukan dalam kegiatan ini adalah : (1) memberikan pelatihan mengatasi rasa gugup, dan (2) pelatihan dan pendampingan dalam praktek pidato. Media massa merupakan salah satu medium komunikasi massa yang cukup kuat mempengaruhi para pemirsanya. Akibat dari perkembangan difusi dan inovasi atas isi media yang begitu kuat pengaruhnya maka terbentuklah budaya populer. Salahsatu media yang dimaksud adalah media youtube. Pengaruh media youtube sekarang bahkan turut dalam membentuk karakter, perilaku, hingga gaya hidup remaja pada umumnya. Karena dengan mempengaruhi perilaku serta karakter manusia menimbulkan sebuah realitas bagi masyarakat dengan melahirkan banyak opini-opini serta perubahan sosial yang disebabkan oleh media maka mendukung kuatnya budaya populer ini. Maka kajian ini membedah pada bagaimana implementasi difusi inovasi pada kemampuan media baru dalam membentuk budaya populer melalui youtube di kalangan remaja. Kerangka teoritis yang digunakan adalah Difusi Inovasi, Teori Budaya Populer dan Teori Konvergensi serta Media Baru. Metode yang dilakukan bersifat kualitatif deskriptif sehingga hasil kajian ini nantinya mengarah pada implementasi difusi inovasi dari media youtube di kalangan remaja dalam membentuk budaya populer serta proses dan perubahannya. Remaja memiliki kemampuan menyerap inovasi karena memiliki kemampuan adaptasi yang tinggi terhadap perubahan, memiliki kepercayaan, mampu berpikir rasional dan terbuka terhadap inovasi yang ada. Ciri yang melekat pada temuan jenis budaya populernya adalah bersifat tren, memiliki keanekaragaman bentuk, adapabilitas, durabilitas dan profitabilitas. Akan tetapi inovasi yang diserap para remaja selain membawa dampak positif juga memberikan dampak negatif.
In the educational sector, effective communication is a crucial instrument to inculcate multicultural values. One of the methods involves integrating these values into the Islamic Education and Character Development (IECD) subject in elementary schools. This research focused on how to implement this method in SD Badan Perguruan Indonesia (BPI) in Bandung, Indonesia by using a qualitative case study approach with an intensive focus on how and why the subject matter was urgently conducted. The research data were collected by interviews, field observations, literature study and the use of educational communication and Stephen R. Covey’s theory of habit as theoretical frameworks. Research results showed that the implementation of multicultural educational communication integrated into IECD by involving educational communication elements, i.e. teachers, learning materials and media as well as students could be attained by developing characters and habits of the students so that they always uphold good moral values, discipline, awareness, humanity and honesty both at school and in the society.
This research focused on the urgency of teachers’ communication competence in inculcating multicultural values at elementary schools, in this case, the inclusive elementary school of Trirenggo, Yogyakarta. Communication skills are an essential competency for teachers as stated in the Regulation of the Minister of Education No. 16 of 2007 dated May 4th, 2007. Teachers, as communicators, are the main factor in establishing effective communication in the learning process. In this case, a teacher with excellent communication skills would substantially determine a school’s success in the implementation of multicultural values. In order to analyze the subject, this study used a qualitative method, and the data were collected from three respondents from the inclusive elementary school of Trirenggo, Yogyakarta. The results indicated that teachers’ communication competency which consisted of three aspects, i.e. motivation, knowledge, and skills, was urgently required in order to achieve teaching goals. A competent teacher would significantly be able to establish a positive atmosphere and influence among students, thus, enable them to effectively inculcate the designated values. At this school, the multicultural values were integrated into teaching subjects, students’ assessment, specified learning methods, character development, and regular group activities.
National character development has never been this urgent due to the rapid development of science and technology as well as globalization nowadays. This effort can be done through storytelling since it is an effective way of the instillation of morality and character development for children of a young age. Animal-themed storytelling activities in Annizomiyah Kindergarten located in Pejaten, South Jakarta, aimed to encourage students to acquire, master and comprehend the noble values in the stories such as honesty, cooperation, etc. Storytelling was one among their other various learning tools in respect of developing national characters. One of the evaluation results of these activities was that the students demonstrated high enthusiasm and abilities to interact with the storytellers. Furthermore, they were also able to answer questions regarding the stories and provided examples in their daily lives. These aforementioned activities had also improved their verbal communication abilities through a question and answer session. In conclusion, interactive storytelling is an effective way to obtain the goals of this school in regards to the character development since noble values can easily be instilled in young children’s mind through interesting and compelling stories so that they will grow as individuals with good moral characters.
