ResumoO número de micro e pequenos empreendimentos brasileiros já ultrapassam 5,5 milhões de estabelecimentos, os quais respondem por 20% do produto interno bruto -PIB, 1,4% das exportações, 43% da renda e 60% dos empregos formais. O percentual de empresas que sobrevivem, pelo menos dois anos, passou de 50,6% em 2002, para 78% em 2005, ou seja, um aumento de 27,4%. O presente artigo tem como objetivo compreender e analisar os motivos que levam ao sucesso ou ao fracasso das MPEs, em especial àquelas com até cinco anos de constituição. Para tal, o artigo foi estruturado em quatro etapas. Na primeira etapa foi realizada uma descrição sobre o universo das MPEs no Brasil. Na segunda etapa foi realizada uma revisão da literatura sobre planejamento, tomada de decisão e a inovação na MPE. Na terceira etapa procedeu-se uma pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, descritiva e exploratória, e os dados foram obtidos por meio de revisão bibliográfica e documental. Na quarta e última etapa são apresentados os resultados do estudo que indicam que os empresários estão inovando no processo de gestão, estando mais atentos para questões como planejamento, análise financeira e qualidade das equipes internas. Já o processo decisório aparece como uma das áreas menos importantes, com cerca de 8% das respostas. Como possíveis contribuições, o trabalho entende que os benefícios que trazem o sucesso das empresas para a sociedade, por meio do expressivo volume de negócios que geram, justificam a necessidade de estudos visando contribuir para a consolidação destas mesmas organizações.Palavras-chave: Empresa familiar, inovação, micro e pequena empresa, planejamento, tomada de decisão. ResumoEste trabalho busca compreender as etapas do ciclo de vida organizacional (CVO) da empresa Dudalina, identificando os elementos que contribuíram para o seu declínio, bem como as estratégias que colaboram para o seu turnaround. A escolha dessa empresa se justifica por ela apresentar elementos que a caracterizam como empresa familiar, além da história de ascensão, declínio e turnaround ao longo da sua existência. O CVO foi analisado a partir do Modelo dos Três Círculos da Empresa Familiar, proposto por Gersick et al. (1997); e para a compreensão do turnaround, adotou-se o framework de Robbins e Pearce II (1992). Foram realizadas visitas às unidades de produção, entrevistas com os sócios/acionistas e análise de documentos disponibilizados pela empresa. Este estudo objetivou descrever o Projeto SIS SEBRAE/SC como ferramenta inovadora que proporciona o acesso e compartilhamento de informação e conhecimento entre as empresas associadas em Arranjos Produtivos Locais (APLs), bem como a obtenção de vantagem competitiva por meio da inteligência gerada. A estratégia do projeto se apoia em um Portal no qual as empresas têm a oportunidade de compartilhar informações, tratadas e analisadas por uma equipe de especialistas que as converte em conhecimento. A intenção é disponibilizar um instrumento de apoio à tomada de decisão e proporcionar a colaboração interorganizacional. Essa colaboração acontece, principalmente, pelo uso comum dos produtos de inteligência e pela utilização dos demais recursos oferecidos no portal. O método de pesquisa é um estudo de caso, e para tanto foi analisado o framework do projeto, bem como foram descritos os produtos de inteligência gerados pelo sistema. Pode-se dizer que a IC setorial visa tornar todo o setor mais competitivo. A pesquisa mostra que é possível estruturar com sucesso um modelo de inteligência competitiva que aborde um setor ou segmento da economia, e também é observado que a criação de canais de comunicação com os usuários (modelo de relatório Ad-hoc) é fundamental para customizar a informação e garantir a satisfação dos usuários.
