Resumen: El objetivo de la presente investigación fue conocer la relación existente entre los Estados de ánimo y los síntomas de ansiedad y depresión, en una muestra de estudiantes de medicina de una universidad pública del Ecuador, durante la pandemia del COVID-19. Para ello se empleó una metodología de diseño no experimental,de alcance descriptivo, correlacional y de corte transversal. La investigación se realizó a través del empleo de las escalas de Valoración del Estado de Ánimo (EVEA) y el Cuestionario de Ansiedad y Depresión de Goldberg. Formaron parte del estudio 429 participantes entre 18 a 60 años (Ẋ = 20,1 años; s = 0,83). Entre los resultados se encontró que prevalecen de manera significativa estados de ánimo positivos (Alegría); aunque existe presencia de conductas de ansiedad (5,12) y depresión (1,75), con mayor incidencia de sintomatología ansiosa. Por último, el estudio señala que existen relaciones altas, moderadas y bajas entre los estados de ánimo tristeza- depresión, irahostilidad, ansiedad y alegría y las conductas de ansiedad y depresión. Se concluye que los estados de ánimo son predictores de la presencia de las condiciones de ansiedad y depresión en la población universitaria.
