Background: Antioxidants are rampantly studied due to their ability to trap the free radicals. Due to excessive stress these free radicals take part as fundamental components in oxidative damage leading to changes in SOD, CT, GSSH, GPx, GSH, LPO, GGT, LDH. High Dilution Medicines (HDM) are also being investigated in deciphering their antioxidant properties. Methodology: The database for the research paper was screened from Google scholar, PubMed, and Web of Science. The search keywords used were Antioxidant, Homoeopathy, Homeopathy, In-vitro, In-vivo, Clinical trial in various permutation and combinations. The research article in original full text with English language is included in this manuscript. Score for assessment of biological experiment on homeopathy (SABEH) was referred for screening the research articles. Results: Around 14 research manuscript showed the research conducted on HDM with respect to their antioxidant properties. Four In-vitro, Eight In-vivo studies and two Clinical studies were used in assessing the antioxidant activity. Out of 14, only 12 studies were included in SABEH criteria scores above 5/9. SOD, CT, GSH, GPx, LPO, GSSH, GGT, LDH, 2,2 DPPH were found to be explored with HDM with their antioxidant properties. Conclusion: HDM can further be studied at to what extent they provide preventive role, interception role and repair role pertaining with their antioxidant properties, also comparing the efficacy of antioxidant properties through oral route and injectable in various stages of disease.
Background: Chromatography is one of the important laboratory technique in which the components of a mixture are separated on an adsorbent in order to analyze, identify, purify and quantify a mixture. Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC)is used to support the identity of a compound in a mixture when the Rf of a compound is compared with the Rf of a known compound. High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography is a sophisticated and automated form of Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). The procedure simultaneously processes the sample and standard that results in better analytical precision and accuracy at a faster pace. Pharmacological/ Toxicological action of Nux Vomica is because of its active principles present in the seeds namely strychnine, brucine etc. This research paper aims to corelate the active principles present in Nux Vomica with the toxicological action of the same. Materials and Methods: 1. Standard Nux Vomica mother tincture was tested for its alkaloid markers and its correlation with the toxicological action was studied. 2. Analysis of the mother tincture was done using High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography. 3. Stationary phase consisted of TLC Aluminium sheets with silica gel 60 F253 pre-coated layer (20cm x 10cm), thickness-0.2mm, no. of tracks-18, band length-6mm. 4. Mobile Phase consisted of Chloroform: Methanol (9.5:0.5). 5. The plate was developed in developing chamber and observed under U.V. Light. Results: Colours seen on the HPTLC Plates of samples are greenwhich corresponds to strychnine, dark blue which corresponds to brucine, orange to alkaloids fluorescent green to sterols and pink to fatty acids which are evident on the chromatogram. Conclusion: Therapeutic action of Nux Vomica as noted in Homoeopathic Materia Medica is because of the active principles like strychnine, brucine, alkaloids, sterols, fatty acids present in it which is evident from the chromatogram.
Ignatia contains a considerable amount of strychnine and Brucine, more indeed in proportion than Nux Vomica. It is these alkaloids that it owes much of its energy. In poisonous quantities, Ignatia causes tetanic spasms while in small doses, it cures the same symptoms. Ignatia exalts the impressionability of the incident nerves all over the body. It causes reflex excitation- twitching, constrictions, and spasms. This action is not deep and long lasting. Alternate set of symptoms are numbness, torpor. Ignatia acts specially on the Medulla oblongata and spinal nervous system giving rise to these tetanic convulsions. The entire nervous system gets affected making the system sensitive so much that there is intense acuteness of the nerves of sensation and of special senses and increased susceptibility of external impressions, mental and physical. If we were to correlate this with the pharmacological action of Strychnine and Brucine, all the actions of Ignatia can aptly be assigned to the pharmacological action of these two active principles. This can be verified by High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography which would help to segregate and identify the constituents present in the Ignatia Amra mother tincture and correlate their action with the pharmacological action of Ignatia Amra. Materials and Methods: Standard Ignatia Amara mother tincture was tested for its alkaloid markers and its correlation with the pharmacological action was studied. High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography was used for qualitative analysis if Ignatia Amra homoeopathic mother tincture. TLC Aluminium sheets with silica gel 60 F253 pre-coated layer (20cm x 10cm), thickness-0.2mm, no. of tracks-18, band length-6mm constituted the stationary phase. Chloroform: Methanol (9.5:0.5) constituted the mobile phase. The plate was developed in developing chamber and observed under U.V. Light. Results: Rf. Values of the Ignatia Amara homoeopathic mother tincture were observed at 0.67 and 0.70 which corresponds to the Rf. Value of Brucine which is 0.69. Superimposed UV Spectra of brucine standard shows y-max at 306nm whereas superimposed UV Spectra of strychnine standard shows y-max at 259nm which matches with the y-max shown by Ignatia Amra mother tincture one at 260nm and other at 306nm. Conclusion: Thus, it is evident from the chromatogram that Ignatia Amara homoeopathic Mother tincture contains both Brucine and Strychnine which is supported by evidence in the source books. This helps correlate the action of Ignatia Amara homoeopathic mother tincture with its active principles namely Brucine and Strychnine.
