A simple, one-step method has been developed to construct a superhydrophobic surface by electrodepositing Mg-Mn-Ce magnesium plate in an ethanol solution containing cerium nitrate hexahydrate and myristic acid. Scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were employed to characterize the surfaces. The shortest electrodeposition time to obtain a superhydrophobic surface was about 1 min, and the as-prepared superhydrophobic surfaces had a maximum contact angle of 159.8° and a sliding angle of less than 2°. Potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements demonstrated that the superhydrophobic surface greatly improved the corrosion properties of magnesium alloy in 3.5 wt % aqueous solutions of NaCl, Na2SO4, NaClO3, and NaNO3. Besides, the chemical stability and mechanical durability of the as-prepared superhydrophobic surface were also examined. The presented method is rapid, low-cost, and environmentally friendly and thus should be of significant value for the industrial fabrication of anticorrosive superhydrophobic surfaces and should have a promising future in expanding the applications of magnesium alloys.
IMPORTANCE Lymph node status is the primary determinant in treatment decision making in early gastric cancer (EGC). Current evaluation methods are not adequate for estimating lymph node metastasis (LNM) in EGC. OBJECTIVE To develop and validate a prediction model based on a fully quantitative collagen signature in the tumor microenvironment to estimate the individual risk of LNM in EGC. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS This retrospective study was conducted from August 1, 2016, to May 10, 2018, at 2 medical centers in China (Nanfang Hospital and Fujian Provincial Hospital). Participants included a primary cohort (n = 232) of consecutive patients with histologically confirmed gastric cancer who underwent radical gastrectomy and received a T1 gastric cancer diagnosis from January 1, 2008, to December 31, 2012. Patients with neoadjuvant radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or chemoradiotherapy were excluded. An additional consecutive cohort (n = 143) who received the same diagnosis from January 1, 2011, to December 31, 2013, was enrolled to provide validation. Baseline clinicopathologic data of each patient were collected. Collagen features were extracted in specimens using multiphoton imaging, and the collagen signature was constructed. An LNM prediction model based on the collagen signature was developed and was internally and externally validated. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) of the prediction model and decision curve were analyzed for estimating LNM. RESULTS In total, 375 patients were included. The primary cohort comprised 232 consecutive patients, in whom the LNM rate was 16.4% (n = 38; 25 men [65.8%] with a mean [SD] age of 57.82 [10.17] years). The validation cohort consisted of 143 consecutive patients, in whom the LNM rate was 20.9% (n = 30; 20 men [66.7%] with a mean [SD] age of 54.10 [13.19] years). The collagen signature was statistically significantly associated with LNM (odds ratio, 5.470; 95% CI, 3.315-9.026; P < .001). Multivariate analysis revealed that the depth of tumor invasion, tumor differentiation, and the collagen signature were independent predictors of LNM. These 3 predictors were incorporated into the new prediction model, and a nomogram was established. The model showed good discrimination in the primary cohort (AUROC, 0.955; 95% CI, 0.919-0.991) and validation cohort (AUROC, 0.938; 95% CI, 0.897-0.981). An optimal cutoff value was selected in the primary cohort, which had a sensitivity of 86.8%, a specificity of 93.3%, an accuracy of 92.2%, a positive predictive value of 71.7%, and a negative predictive value of 97.3%. The validation cohort had a sensitivity of 90.0%, a specificity of 90.3%, an accuracy of 90.2%, a positive predictive value of 71.1%, and a negative predictive value of 97.1%. Among the 375 patients, a sensitivity of 87.3%, a specificity of 92.1%, an accuracy of 91.2%, a positive predictive value of 72.1%, and a negative predictive value of 96.9% were found. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE This study's findings suggest th...
Upconversion nanocrystals (UCNs) display near-infrared (NIR)-responsive photoluminescent properties for NIR imaging and drug delivery. The development of effective strategies for UCN integration with other complementary nanostructures for targeting and drug conjugation is highly desirable. This study reports on a core/shell-based theranostic system designed by UCN integration with a folate (FA)-conjugated dendrimer for tumor targeting and with photocaged doxorubicin as a cytotoxic agent. Two types of UCNs (NaYF4:Yb/Er (or Yb/Tm); diameter = ≈50 to 54 nm) are described, each displaying distinct emission properties upon NIR (980 nm) excitation. The UCNs are surface modified through covalent attachment of photocaged doxorubicin (ONB-Dox) and a multivalent FA-conjugated polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimer G5(FA)6 to prepare UCN@(ONB-Dox)(G5FA). Surface plasmon resonance experiments performed with G5(FA)6 dendrimer alone show nanomolar binding avidity (KD = 5.9 × 10(-9) M) to the folate binding protein. This dendrimer binding corresponds with selective binding and uptake of UCN@(ONB-Dox)(G5FA) by FAR-positive KB carcinoma cells in vitro. Furthermore, UCN@(ONB-Dox)(G5FA) treatment of FAR(+) KB cells inhibits cell growth in a light dependent manner. These results validate the utility of modularly integrated UCN-dendrimer nanocomposites for cell type specific NIR imaging and light-controlled drug release, thus serving as a new theranostic system.
Accurate prediction of peritoneal metastasis for gastric cancer (GC) with serosal invasion is crucial in clinic. The presence of collagen in the tumour microenvironment affects the metastasis of cancer cells. Herein, we propose a collagen signature, which is composed of multiple collagen features in the tumour microenvironment of the serosa derived from multiphoton imaging, to describe the extent of collagen alterations. We find that a high collagen signature is significantly associated with a high risk of peritoneal metastasis (P < 0.001). A competing-risk nomogram including the collagen signature, tumour size, tumour differentiation status and lymph node metastasis is constructed. The nomogram demonstrates satisfactory discrimination and calibration. Thus, the collagen signature in the tumour microenvironment of the gastric serosa is associated with peritoneal metastasis in GC with serosal invasion, and the nomogram can be conveniently used to individually predict the risk of peritoneal metastasis in GC with serosal invasion after radical surgery.
Singlet oxygen ( O ), as an important kind of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and main therapeutic agent in photodynamic therapy (PDT), only have a half-life of 40 ns and an effective radius of 20 nm, which cause significant obstacles for improving PDT efficacy. In this work, novel upconversion nanoparticle (UCN)-based nanoplatforms are developed with a minimized distance between UCNs and a photosensitizer, protoporphyrin IX (PpIX), and a controllable payload of PpIX, to enhance and control ROS production. The ability of the nanoplatform to target different subcellular organelles such as cell membrane and mitochondria is demonstrated via surface modification of the nanoplatform with different targeting ligands. The results show that the mitochondria-targeting nanoplatforms result in significantly increased capability of both tumor cell killing and inhibition of tumor growth. Subcellular targeting of nanoparticles leads to the death of cancer cells in different manners. However, the efficiency of ROS generation almost have no influence on the tumor cell viability during the period of evaluation. These findings suggest that specific subcellular targeting of the nanoplatforms enhances the PDT efficacy more effectively than the increase of ROS production, and may shed light on future novel designs of effective and controllable PDT nanoplatforms.

Sybil attack can counterfeit traffic scenario by sending false messages with multiple identities, which often causes traffic jams and even leads to vehicular accidents in vehicular ad hoc network (VANET). It is very difficult to be defended and detected, especially when it is launched by some conspired attackers using their legitimate identities. In this paper, we propose an event based reputation system (EBRS), in which dynamic reputation and trusted value for each event are employed to suppress the spread of false messages. EBRS can detect Sybil attack with fabricated identities and stolen identities in the process of communication, it also defends against the conspired Sybil attack since each event has a unique reputation value and trusted value.
