-Seed deterioration causes losses to seed companies during the storage. For researches, the challenge has been to develop techniques which improve the seed longevity as well as laboratory analysis methods required for evaluating the evolution of deterioration in storage. This study had the objective of determining the effectiveness of the accelerated aging test with a saturated NaCl solution and Seed Vigor Imaging System (SVIS) analysis in checking soybean seed physiological in comparison with the recommended vigor tests. Soybean seeds from the cultivars BRS 184 and M-Soy 7908 RR were used, each of them were represented by six lots and stored for six months under two environment conditions. Seed physiological quality was checked every two months in storage through germination evaluations, accelerated aging (different methods), tetrazolium test (vigor and viability) seedling emergence, and SVIS analysis. The tetrazolium test is the most advisable method for evaluating soybean seed quality during storage. The results of the saturated salt accelerated aging test with NaCl at 41 °C for 72 or 96 hours and the SVIS evaluation are also both efficient for estimating the physiological potential of seeds.Index terms: physiological potential, storage, Glycine max, SVIS.Envelhecimento acelerado e análise computadorizada de imagem de plântulas para avaliação do desempenho de sementes de soja RESUMO -Deterioração em sementes provoca prejuízos para empresas sementeiras durante o armazenamento. Para os pesquisadores, o desafio tem sido buscar técnicas que visam aumentar a longevidade das sementes bem como métodos de análise laboratoriais exigidos para avaliar a evolução da deterioração no armazenamento. Este estudo teve o objetivo de avaliar a eficácia do teste de envelhecimento acelerado com solução saturada de NaCl e do uso do software Seed Vigor Imaging System (SVIS) para comparação do potencial fisiológico das sementes durante o armazenamento, em comparação com os testes de vigor existentes. Foram utilizadas sementes de soja das cultivares BRS 184 e M-Soy 7908 RR, representadas por seis lotes e armazenadas por seis meses, sob duas condições ambientais. Verificou-se o potencial fisiológico por meio de avaliações de germinação, envelhecimento acelerado (diferentes métodos), tetrazólio (vigor e viabilidade), emergência de plântulas e análise SVIS. O teste de tetrazólio é o mais sensível para avaliar o potencial fisiológico de sementes de soja durante o armazenamento. One of the main problems in pepper seed production is the uneven maturation of the fruits due to the continuous flowering period of the plant, making it difficult to harvest all the fruits at the same time. Thus, studies on fruit maturation stage and seed physiological potential are extremely important in order to identify the appropriate harvest time, avoiding seed deterioration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physiological potential of five genotypes of “dedo de moça” pepper seeds (Capsicum baccatum var. pendulum) in three maturation stages (green, orange and red), with and without 10-day rest period after harvest date. Physiological potential and vigor of seeds were evaluated through germination tests (first count, accelerated aging and electrical conductivity). The observed results were submitted to variance analysis, comparing averages through Tukey test and principal components analysis. In general, red fruits reflected seed maturity since they provided maximum germination. On the other hand, even fruits harvested at a maturation stage prior to red (green and orange), showed the benefits of the rest periods on germination and vigor characteristics, being this result more evident in green fruits which, initially, had lower physiological potential. The evaluated genotypes showed lower physiological potential of fruits harvested at the green stage, without 10-day rest period.
-In soybean crops, industrial seed treatment is widely adopted, and it has allowed the development of new technologies, such as the use of dry powders. This work aimed to evaluate the effect of the industrial treatment, with and without the additional application of dry powder, on the physiological potential of soybean seeds. The experimental design was completely randomized, in a 4×2 factorial scheme, with four replications. Four chemical treatments were evaluated: 1) control, 2) carbendazim + thiram + thiamethoxam, 3) carbendazim + thiram, 4) thiamethoxam. Each trial was divided into one group that was treated and the other that remained untreated with the dry powder. The cultivars BRS 360 RR and BRS 284 were used and analyzed separately. The physiological potential of the seeds was determined by the following assessments: germination, first germination count, seedling emergence in sand, seedling total length, shoot length, and root length. Soybean cultivars respond differently to seed chemical treatments, regarding the effects on physiological potential. Using the dry powder results in problems in seed germination speed in the cultivar BRS 284. In the cultivar BRS 360 RR, the use of dry powder associated with thiamethoxam treatment reduces the physiological potential of the seeds.Index terms: Glycine max (L.) O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do tratamento industrial de sementes, com e sem a aplicação de pó secante, sobre o potencial fisiológico de sementes de soja. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 4x2, com quatro repetições, sendo avaliados quatro tratamentos químicos de sementes: 1) testemunha, 2) carbendazim + thiram + tiametoxam, 3) carbendazim + thiram, 4) tiametoxam; todos na ausência e na presença de pó secante. As cultivares utilizadas foram a BRS 360 RR e a BRS 284, que foram analisadas separadamente. O potencial fisiológico das sementes foi determinado por meio das seguintes avaliações: germinação, primeira contagem de germinação, emergência de plântulas em areia, e comprimentos total, da parte aérea e da raiz das plântulas. As cultivares de soja respondem de forma diferenciada aos tratamentos químicos de sementes, quanto aos efeitos no potencial fisiológico. O pó secante resulta em problemas na velocidade de germinação das sementes da cultivar BRS 284. Na cultivar BRS 360 RR, o uso de pó secante associado ao tratamento com tiametoxam reduz o potencial fisiológico das sementes.Termos para indexação: Glycine max (L.)
