-The objective was to assess the early treatment effect of soybean seeds and pre-sowing with different combinations of chemicals on the establishment of plants and crop yield performance. The design was in randomized blocks in a 2x7 factorial arrangement, with two times for seed treatment and seven treatments (six chemical treatments and an untreated control). The treatments were: 1) fipronil + pyraclostrobin + thiophanate methyl; 2) imidacloprid + thiodicarb + carbendazin + thiram; 3) abamectin + thiamethoxam + fludioxonil + mefenoxam + thiabendazole; 4) carbendazin + thiram; 5) fludioxonil + mefenoxam + thiabendazole; 6) carboxin + thiram; and 7) untreated control (water only). The assessments were: seedling emergence, final stand, plant height and insertion of first pod, number of pods per plant, seeds per pod and per plant, thousand-seed weight and grain yield. Early treatment of soybean seeds (240 days prior to sowing) hinders the establishment of the crop, the thousand-seed weight and grain yield in relation to the pre-sowing treatment. Chemical treatments tested containing fungicides and insecticides associated favor the establishment of the crop, but do not alter the soybean yield performance.Index terms: Glycine max (L.) O delineamento foi de blocos ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 2x7, sendo, duas épocas de tratamento de sementes e sete tratamentos (seis tratamentos químicos e uma testemunha sem tratamento). Os tratamentos foram: 1) fipronil + piraclostrobina + tiofanato metílico; 2) imidacloprido + tiodicarbe + carbendazin + thiram; 3) abamectina + tiametoxan + fludioxonil + mefenoxam + thiabendazole; 4) carbendazin + thiram; 5) fludioxonil + mefenoxam + thiabendazole; 6) carboxin + thiram; e 7) testemunha sem tratamento (somente água). O tratamento de sementes de soja antecipado (240 dias antes da semeadura) prejudica o estabelecimento da cultura, a massa de mil sementes e a produtividade de grãos, em relação ao tratamento em pré-semeadura. Os tratamentos químicos testados contendo fungicidas e inseticidas associados favorecem o estabelecimento da cultura, porém não alteram o desempenho produtivo da soja.Termos para indexação: Glycine max (L.) <title>RESUMO</title><p>Objetivou-se no trabalho avaliar a qualidade fisiológica de lotes de sementes de cultivares de feijão do tipo carioca ao longo do armazenamento em diferentes ambientes. O ensaio foi desenvolvido na Universidade Estadual de Londrina sob delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições, em esquema fatorial 3 x 2 x 4 sendo três lotes de cultivares de feijão carioca (lote 1: Carioca Precoce, lote 2: IAC Carioca Tibatã e lote 3: IAC Carioca), dois ambientes de armazenamento (ambiente natural e câmara seca) e quatro épocas de armazenamento (0, 6, 12 e 18 meses). A qualidade das sementes foi avaliada pelos seguintes testes: teor de água, primeira contagem do teste de germinação, germinação, envelhecimento acelerado, condutividade elétrica e emergência de plântulas em campo. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância, comparação de médias pelo teste de Tukey a 0,05 de probabilidade e análise de regressão. Sementes de feijão do lote 1 (cultivar Carioca Precoce) e lote 3 (IAC Carioca) apresentam melhor qualidade fisiológica em relação ao lote 2 (IAC Carioca Tibatã). A qualidade fisiológica das sementes de feijão carioca é reduzida durante o armazenamento para todos os lotes, porém com taxas mais acentuadas sob condições não controladas de temperatura e umidade.</p>

-The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of different spray volumes, via industrial treatment, on the physiological quality of soybean seeds with different levels of vigor. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2x5 factor scheme, with four replications. Factors consisted in two levels of seed vigor (high and low) and five spray volumes (0, 600, 1200, 1800 and 2400 mL. 100 kg -1 ). Products used to obtain the volumes were: fungicide (carbendazin + thiram); insecticide (imidacloprid + thiodicarb); nematicide (abamectin); micronutrients (cobalt, molybdenum and zinc); polymer (peridiam); biostimulants (kinetin + gibberellic acid) and inoculum (Bradyrhizobium japonicum). The used cultivars were BRS 360 RR and BRS 1010 IPRO. The physiological seed quality was determined by the following evaluations: germination, first count of the germination test, seedling emergence in sand, emergency speed index, total length of shoot and root of the seedlings. In the different spray volumes, high vigor soybean seeds have higher physiological quality than low vigor seeds. The increased spray volumes in seed treatments reduce the physiological quality of low vigor soybean seeds.

Produção de cultivares de alface americana sob dois sistemas de cultivoA alface é cultivada em todas as regiões brasileiras, porém há restrições ao seu cultivo em virtude de sua sensibilidade às condições adversas de temperatura, umidade do ar e disponibilidade de água. Diante disso, objetivou-se, com este experimento, avaliar a produção de quatro cultivares de alface americana, sob dois sistemas de cultivo. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos ao acaso, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas. As parcelas foram constituídas por dois sistemas de cultivo (túnel baixo de polietileno e campo aberto), e, as subparcelas por quatro cultivares de alface americana (Angelina, Rubette, Grandes Lagos 659 e Tainá), com quatro repetições. As características avaliadas foram: altura de plantas, diâmetro total da planta, diâmetro transversal da cabeça, comprimento de caule, diâmetro de caule, massa de matéria fresca de caule, número de folhas comerciais e não comerciais, massa de matéria fresca comercial e não comercial. Foi realizada análise de variância e as médias foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey. O túnel baixo favorece o crescimento e a produção de cultivares de alface americana, em relação ao campo aberto. O cultivar Rubette mostra crescimento e produção superiores aos demais cultivares avaliados, nos dois sistemas de cultivo. In this context, the aim of this study was to evaluate the production of four lettuce cultivars under two cropping systems. The experimental design was randomized blocks in a split-plot scheme. The plots consisted of two cropping systems (low polyethylene tunnel and open field) and the sub plots of four lettuce cultivars (Angelina, Rubette, Grandes Lagos 659, and Tainá) with four replications. The characteristics evaluated were: plant height, overall diameter of the plant, transverse head diameter, stem length, stem diameter, stem fresh weight, number of commercial and non-commercial leaves, and commercial and non-commercial fresh weight. Analysis of variance was performed and means were compared by Tukey test. The low tunnel favors the growth and production of lettuce cultivars in relation to open field. Cultivar Rubette shows growth and production superior to the other cultivars in both cropping systems.

This study has aimed to carry out the description of fruits and seeds and germination process of desert rose, from two years of observations. The fruits and seeds were characterized based on length, diameter and number of seeds per fruit. The seeds internal structure and germinating process were also described. Germination test was performed at 25 and 30 °C temperatures, determining the germination percentage and germination speed index. Seeds harvested in 2013 were stored for 12 months and submitted to a new germination test. Parallel to these tests, the seeds imbibition curve was determined in substrates over and between sheets of paper at 15, 20, 25 and 30 °C temperatures. The fruits and seeds had similar lengths and diameters in both years of observations. The seeds can be stored for up to 12 months without loss in viability and temperatures of 25 and 30 °C are suitable for performing the germination test of this species. The water absorption curve of desert rose seeds follows a triphasic pattern of soaking.

In wheat crops, it is often observed that the number of plants per area is lower than that of viable seeds used, which may be related to both environmental conditions and seed vigor. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of seed vigor level at different sowing densities on growth, development, and grain yield in wheat cultivars. The experiments were conducted in Londrina and Ponta Grossa, PR, Brazil, under a randomized block design in a 2 × 2 × 3 factorial scheme, with four replications. Two seed vigor levels (high and low), two sowing densities (200 and 400 viable seeds per m2), and three wheat cultivars (BRS Sabiá, BRS Gaivota, and BRS Gralha Azul) were assessed. In order to assess growth and development, plant samples were collected at the phenological stages of seedling growth, stem elongation, booting, and ear emergence. We assessed the emergence of seedlings, height and dry matter of plant shoot, and grain yield. The sowing density of 200 seeds per m2 led to a higher shoot dry matter production per plant at the stages booting and ear emergence. The cultivar BRS Sabiá presented the highest grain yield in Londrina, while BRS Sabiá and BRS Gralha Azul presented the highest grain yield in Ponta Grossa. High vigor seeds favor stand establishment, growth and development of plants at early phenological stages, and grain yield of wheat.

-Seed treatment with insecticides and fungicides has become an important practice for ensuring initial plant stand in establishing crops. In this context, the aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of chemical seed treatment with insecticides and fungicides on the physiological quality and health of the seeds of wheat cultivars. Seeds of the wheat cultivars BRS Pardela and BRS Gaivota were used, subjected to the following chemical treatments: 1-control, 2-carboxin + thiram + imidacloprid + thiodicarb, 3-carbendazim + thiram + imidacloprid + thiodicarb, 4-fipronil + thiophanate-methyl + pyraclostrobin, 5-triadimenol + imidacloprid + thiodicarb, 6-fipronil, and 7-imidacloprid + thiodicarb. Physiological quality was evaluated by tests of germination, accelerated aging, the length and dry weight of shoots and roots, and seedling emergence in the field. Seed health quality was evaluated by the blotter test method. The seeds of the wheat cultivars tested respond differently to the chemical treatments in regard to effects on germination and vigor. The treatment with triadimenol + imidacloprid + thiodicarb is harmful to seedling development. For the BRS Gaivota cultivar, the seed treatment with carboxin + thiram + imidacloprid + thiodicarb; and carbendazim + thiram + imidacloprid + thiodicarb improved seedling establishment in the field compared to the control.Index terms: Triticum aestivum L., seed treatment, germination, vigor.Tratamento com fungicidas e inseticidas na qualidade fisiológica e sanitária de sementes de trigo RESUMO -O tratamento de sementes com inseticidas e fungicidas tem se tornado uma prática importante para assegurar o estande inicial de plantas na implantação das lavouras. O tratamento com triadimenol + imidacloprido + tiodicarbe é prejudicial ao desenvolvimento de plântulas. -The use of high quality seeds, the appropriate management practices and the selection of promising genotypes are strategies to exploit the wheat yield potential. Thus, the goal of this study was to evaluate the effect of the vigor level of wheat seeds submitted to different sowing densities on seedling emergence, tillering and yield performance culture. The experiments were conducted in Londrina and Ponta Grossa, Paraná state, Brazil, with a completely randomized block design, in a 2x2x2 factorial scheme, with four replications. Two levels of seed vigor (high and low), two sowing densities (200 and 400 viable seeds per m 2 ) and two wheat cultivars (BRS Sabiá and CD 150) were evaluated. The conducted tests were: seedling emergence, number of tillers, yield components, grain yield and apparent harvest index. The use of high vigor seeds helps the establishment of the plant stand and yield performance in both locations. The 400 seeds per m 2 seedling density results in a lower number of tillers per plant in both locations. Os experimentos foram conduzidos em Londrina-PR e Ponta Grossa-PR, sob o delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 2x2x2, com quatro repetições. Foram avaliados dois níveis de vigor de sementes (alto e baixo), duas densidades de semeadura (200 e 400 sementes viáveis por m 2 ) e duas cultivares de trigo (BRS Sabiá e CD 150). As avaliações efetuadas foram: emergência de plântulas, número de perfilhos, componentes do rendimento, produtividade de grãos e índice de colheita aparente. A utilização de sementes de alto vigor favorece o estabelecimento do estande de plantas e o desempenho produtivo do trigo, em ambos os locais. A densidade de semeadura de 400 sementes por m 2 resulta em menor número de perfilhos por planta, em ambos os locais.
