International audienceThis article deals with the ways in which acts of male violence against women have been revealed or hidden in the Nicaraguan context. By putting the analysis in a long term framework, it allows for placing the different modes of revelation or concealment of these acts within their respective historical contexts, especially wartime violence, political regimes and women’s collective actions. It aims to highlight those processes through which the condemnation of violence against women has been, if not legitimated, at least made audible; whilst also demonstrating that this partial acknowledgement still suppresses the gender-based drivers.
