IntroduçãoEste artigo apresenta um resumo da análise dos impactos econômicos do Grande Prêmio Brasil de Fórmula 1 realizado em 2003, evidenciando que se trata de uma atividade econômica adicional que anualmente ocorre no município de São Paulo. Apresenta, portanto, as estimativas dos impactos econômicos, diretos e indiretos, produzidos nos níveis da atividade econômica do município e do país, propiciados pelo conjunto de todas as atividades associadas à montagem e reali zação do evento, em termos dos aumentos de produção, de valor adicionado (ou renda) e de emprego, que não seriam observados se o evento não ocorresse.Para isso apresenta-se inicialmente uma breve descrição da estrutura meto dológica utilizada no estudo. Em seguida, apresentam-se as principais fontes de informações utilizadas e descrevem-se brevemente os procedimentos utilizados no tratamento dessas fontes. Finalmente, apresentam-se os resultados obtidos.

RESUMO O artigo argumenta que, ao controlar os preços públicos, o governo entra em uma armadilha: esse controle não reduz a inflação como esperado no primeiro momento e ativa fatores que a aumentarão posteriormente. A análise é desenvolvida para preços administrados pelo governo na área de energia e emprega um modelo de insumo-produto que leva em consideração os impactos diretos e indiretos das mudanças de preço. Quando os preços públicos são reduzidos, o impacto sobre a inflação é pequeno; mas, como isso cria dificuldades financeiras para as empresas públicas, elas demandam recursos do governo e/ou valorização dos preços posteriormente.
