Dry matter data were obtained during the execution of experiment under field conditions from October 26, 2011 to May 18, 2012. Experimental data were collected from 45 days after planting, in one or two week time intervals, totalizing 17 sampling dates. The obtained values were subjected to nonlinear regression analysis in order to determine the parameters of the expolinear, logistic and Gompertz models. All evaluated models were capable of adequately simulating the dry matter accumulation by the cultivars during the studied period, with values of the adjusted determination coefficient above 0.9245. Based on the expolinear growth model, it was observed, at the end of the experimental period, that the accumulated dry mass was stightly superior for the cultivar RB855453 as compared to the RB867515, which outperformed the cultivars RB928064 and RB92579.
SUGARCANE SAP FLOW DETERMINATION BY THE ENERGY BALANCE METHODABSTRACT: Sap flow measurements are important not only in the agrometeorology field, but also in studies of physiological nature to identify vascular diseases and researches concerned with quantification of water movement in soil-plant-atmosphere system. This study was carried out to evaluate the performance of the energy balance method, implemented by insertion of a miniresistor in the stem center of sugarcane plants, in order to determine the sap flow under distinct environment conditions, utilizing gravimetric measurements as comparative standard. The experiment was conducted in a non-environment controlled greenhouse, located at the Federal University of Viçosa, Viçosa-MG. Based on the mean bias error (MBE), it was verified that the energy balance method presented satisfactory results to determine sugarcane transpiration, both in cloudy and partly cloudy sky conditions, underestimating gravimetric values by only 3.0 and 6.5 g plant -1 h -1 , respectively. In percentage terms, these values correspond to 4 and 5% of the maximum sugarcane transpiration.
ABSTRACT:The aim of this research was to evaluate the effect of distinct levels of salinity on the evapotranspiration of the RB867515, RB855453, RB92579 and RB928064 sugarcane cultivars. The evapotranspiration was monitored during daytime period under meteorological conditions influenced, mainly by cloud variations. The salinity values were established by addition of 0, 50, 100 and 150 mM of Sodium Chloride (NaCl) to the nutrient solution, which was applied by fertigation, in such way that the electrical conductivity (EC) of the leached solution was near 3, 6, 10 and 13 dS m -1 , respectively. The increase of the NaCl concentration in the nutrient solution affected, significantly and in a linear manner, the evapotranspiration of all sugarcane cultivars, such that the days with low cloud provided the highest evapotranspiration values and the greater reduction among salinity levels. Analysis of the evapotranspiration accumulated during the daytime period showed that there were no significant differences among sugarcane cultivars and that, under the highest atmospheric water demand, the evapotranspiration decreased 48.5 g plant -1 EC -1 . This value represents the average reduction of 5.1% EC -1 when compared to the treatment without NaCl, considering data of all cultivars.
