A simple method combining slurry sampling after cryogenic grinding and the use of a permanent modification of the integrated platform inside the transversely heated graphite atomizer (THGA) was proposed for the determination of Cd and Pb in foods. Potentialities of the cryogenic grinding were evaluated for grinding different materials of difficult homogenization such as high fat and high fiber tissues. Animal and vegetal samples were cut into small pieces and ground in liquid nitrogen for 2 min. Slurries were prepared directly in the autosampler cup after cryogenic grinding by transferring an exact amount of homogeneous powdered material (5-20 mg) to the cup, followed by 1.00 mL of 0.2% (v/v) HNO3 containing 0.04% (v/v) Triton X-100 and sonication for 30 s, before transferring into the platform previously coated with 250 microg W and 200 microg Rh. Use of a tungsten carbide-rhodium permanent modifier combined with NH4H2PO4 conventional modifier improves tube lifetime and increases the pyrolysis temperature for Cd. Homogeneity tests, carried out by comparing the between- and within-batch precision for each kind of sample, showed no significant differences at the 95% confidence level, indicating good homogeneity for 5-20 mg masses. Detection limits were 3.3 ng g(-1) Cd and 75 ng g(-1) Pb for 1% m/v slurries. Results for determination of Cd and Pb in foods slurries were in agreement with those obtained with digested samples, since no statistical differences were found by the paired t-test at the 95% level.

The atemoya is a hybrid fruit obtained by crossing of cherimoya (Annona cherimola Mill.) with sweet sop (Annona squamosa L.). The information about chemical composition of atemoya is scarce. The mineral composition was evaluated employing Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP OES) and the centesimal composition and the physico-chemical parameters were assessed employing procedures described in the AOAC methods. The total phenolic compounds (TPC) and total flavonoids (TF) were determined using spectroanalytical methods. Considering the Reference Daily Intake (RDI), the concentrations of K, Cu and Vitamin C found in atemoya were the highest, representing about 32, 23 and 37% of the RDI, respectively. The total carbohydrates were 32 g 100g -1 and the soluble solids was equivalent to (32.50 ± 0.03) °Brix. The result for TPC was 540.47 ± 2.32 mg GAE 100 g -1 and the TF was 11.56 ± 1.36 mg QE 100 g -1 . The exploratory evaluation of 42 atemoya samples was performed through Principal Component Analysis (PCA), which discriminated green and ripe fruits according to their mineral composition. Neste trabalho foi avaliada a eficiência de dois procedimentos para digestão ácida de amostras de biodiesel visando à determinação de Ca, P, Mg, K e Na por espectrometria de emissão óptica com plasma acoplado indutivamente com configuração axial (ICP OES). Nas digestões em sistema aberto, foi utilizada a mistura contendo ácidos nítrico, sulfúrico e peróxido de hidrogênio e aquecimento condutivo; enquanto que no procedimento empregando forno de microondas com cavidade foi utilizada a mistura contendo ácido nítrico e peróxido de hidrogênio. Os procedimentos foram avaliados considerando-se limites de quantificação, precisão, acidez final dos digeridos e teor de carbono residual. Os teores de carbono residual nos digeridos foram 0,358 ± 0,012% para o sistema aberto com aquecimento convencional e 0,614 ± 0,023% para o sistema fechado com aquecimento assistido por radiação microondas, o que demonstra a alta eficiência dos procedimentos propostos. O sistema de digestão em forno de microondas com cavidade resultou em maior rapidez, segurança e resultados analíticos com percentuais de recuperação de 89,0-103,0% e desvios menores que 5%. Os limites de detecção obtidos, ≤ 0.40 µg g -1 , são adequados para a determinação dos analitos, conforme os limites estabelecidos na legislação brasileira. Três amostras de biodiesel produzidas de diferentes fontes foram analisadas. Em comparação com outros procedimentos propostos na literatura, o procedimento desenvolvido usando forno de microondas com cavidade apresenta vantagens, tais como não necessitar de soluções orgânicas para calibração e não usar solventes orgânicos tóxicos.In the present work, the efficiency of two procedures for the digestion of biodiesel was investigated for the simultaneous determination of Ca, P, Mg, K and Na by axial view ICP OES. In the open system with conventional heating, concentrated nitric and sulfuric acids were added to the samples, and the addition of hydrogen peroxide completed the digestion. In the microwave-assisted closed system, complete digestion was performed using concentrated nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide. The analytical performances were evaluated through limits of quantification, precision of the overall procedures, final acidity of the digests, and residual carbon contents. The contents of residual carbon for the biodiesel samples digested were 0.358 ± 0.012% using the open system with conventional heating and 0.614 ± 0.023% using the microwave-assisted closed vessel system, demonstrating the high efficiency of both proposed procedures. The optimized microwave-assisted decomposition procedure produced the fastest, safest and most accurate analytical results with recoveries of 89.0-103.0% and deviations lower than 5% in most cases. Low limits of detection were obtained (≤ 0.40 µg g -1 ), adequate for the established limits set out in Brazilian legislation for these analytes. This study is a result of undergraduate student participation in the Environmental Chemistry discipline provided by the Chemistry Institute/UFBA. The students were involved in the development of passive samplers, a project of the LAQUAM (Environmental Analytical Chemistry Laboratory). The students' residences and other neighborhoods were used to create a passive sampling network, allowing the measurement of atmospheric levels of pollutants in urban areas and in those under industrial influence. The assembly of the passive samplers, including impregnation of filters and chemical analysis were part of the students' practice tasks. INTRODUÇÃOA disciplina optativa "Química Ambiental", oferecida para alunos de Química no IQ/UFBA, aborda no seu conteúdo teórico a química das diferentes esferas ambientais. Para a parte prática da disciplina não é definido um programa específico, e sim, a participação dos alunos em um projeto de pesquisa ou estudo de caso que esteja sendo desenvolvido por uma equipe do IQ na área de meio ambiente, devendo ser examinado sob os aspectos químicos, integrando-os à obediência à legislação, aos efeitos sobre o meio ambiente e à saúde humana. Esta disciplina sempre foi oferecida, em semestres alternados para um número de alunos entre 4 -6, porém teve seu módulo (de 10 alunos) ultrapassado neste semestre, devido ao interesse despertado entre os estudantes quanto aos temas ambientais.Este trabalho apresenta o resultado da participação dos alunos dessa disciplina no referido semestre, junto à equipe do LAQUAM (Laboratório de Química Analítica Ambiental do Departamento de Química Analítica do IQ/UFBA) no monitoramento atmosférico de SO 2 , NO 2 e O 3 utilizando amostradores passivos, em áreas urbanas e com influência industrial.A técnica de monitoramento atmosférico mais difundida e aplicada é a ativa, principalmente através do uso de monitores contí-nuos que consistem de tecnologia complicada e cara. No entanto, o uso de amostradores passivos, dispositivos capazes de fixar gases ou vapores da atmosfera, sem envolver bombeamento artificial, tem se mostrado uma alternativa simples e de custo muito baixo.
