Globalization includes transnational political, economic and cultural ideologies and values. Globalization has a significant impact on education as new positions can enter higher education and study abroad. The influx of foreign students in Slovakia increased significantly. Therefore, successful interaction with the school environment and constant adaptation to the country are crucial for all students. However, many students face challenges when they attend higher education outside their home countries. The article shows that various investigators have carried out a large number of studies on the factors that affect students’ ability to adapt to different global challenges. The article provides some results of students’ adaptation effects during the first year of the Technical University in Košice. in the Daily Life section, we recorded statistically significant results between groups (Ukrainian students and other foreign students). Globalization includes transnational political, economic and cultural ideologies and values. The findings of the research questionnaire have important meaning for educators to help students in their efforts to succeed in a period of globalization and in adaptation in real educational practice. The university must be prepared to meet students not only academically, but also socially and culturally.
Globalization generates new inputs for education policy-making and defines new problems that universities needs to address. In a global economy, most countries aim at raising their international competitiveness by offering new manpower profiles with new skills. With globalization, the information revolution, and increasing demands for a highly skilled workforce, nations are increasingly prioritizing and foster effective learning. This article looks at global perspectives on higher education and the role of ICT. The authors offer a balanced theoretical and research background of the opportunities and the potential benefits of information and communication technologies (ICT) for improving the quality of education in universities. The advances in Information and Communication Technologies are, at the same time, cause and consequence of globalisation. Authors discuss about using ICT technology, which contribute to the success of education in European universities. This form of learning promotes the development of important skills that students need to be successful both in the global labour market and in other areas of their lives. To meet the increasing demand for a workforce with up-to-date skills and competencies aligned with globally competitive industries and continue driving Slovakia economic growth into the next century, education systems have to embrace information and communication technology.
Research background: The labor markets in the European countries are largely converging under the common platform of the EU legislation. However, the specific labor conditions across the countries still pertain, thus influencing the state of health differently across the countries. Purpose of the article: The article has for objective to reveal the relations between labor conditions (job satisfactions, opportunity to develop, recognition for work, salary adequacy, freedom of decision-making, job stress and social support), on one hand, and the self-perceived state of health, number of chronic diseases and the occurrence of the selected job-related diseases (peptic ulcer, hypertension, heart attack), on the other. The comparison is carried out in the light of the cross-country comparison. Methods: Sample consists of the employed and economically active employees, aged 50+, originating from 16 EU countries, Switzerland and Israel (N = 16 713 participants, females 53%). The data are provided by the EU Share database (Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe). We use ranking of countries by means (self-perceived state of health, number of chronic diseases) and the non-parametric regression analysis. Findings & Value added: All analyzed working conditions generate statistically significant relations with the self-perceived state of health at the all countries level. However, at the level of individual countries the patterns differ considerably (what rises methodological concerns on different country samples). As regards the specific diseases, considered as work-related: peptic ulcer is associated with all the working conditions analyzed, hypertension associates with four working factors and heart-attack with three. Findings bring important implications for the HR managers and relevant policy-makers.
