O exercício físico é uma das principais terapêuticas utilizadas para o paciente hipertenso, pois reduz a pressão arterial (PA) e os fatores de risco cardiovasculares, diminuindo a morbimortalidade. OBJETIVO: Analisar os efeitos do exercício físico na PA de idosos hipertensos, com base nos resultados de pesquisas empíricas realizadas no período de 2000 a 2010. METODOLOGIA: Revisão sistemática de estudos experimentais, em inglês, português e espanhol, nas bases eletrônicas MEDLINE, PubMed, Lilacs, Cochrane e PEDro, publicados entre 2000 e 2010, utilizando os descritores hipertensão, atividade física, exercício físico, idoso, exercício aeróbio e treinamento de resistência. RESULTADOS: Foram encontrados 19 artigos e incluídos 12 artigos, sendo divididos em categorias temáticas: exercício aeróbico (6 artigos), exercício resistido (4), exercício aeróbico associado ao resistido (2). Entre os exercícios aeróbicos, três artigos evidenciaram redução na pressão arterial sistólica (PAS) e pressão arterial diastólica (PAD). Três artigos afirmam que treinamento resistido reduz significativamente os valores de PAS em repouso e pressão arterial média (PAM), apenas um artigo não registrou uma redução significativa na PAD e frequência cardíaca (FC) de repouso. A utilização dos exercícios aeróbicos associados aos resistidos foram superiores aos demais, pois apontaram reduções significativas na PAS, PAD, PAM e FC de repouso, confirmando as recomendações da VI Diretriz Brasileira de Hipertensão Arterial, mas os estudos em idosos são escassos. CONCLUSÃO: Esta revisão confirma os benefícios oriundos da prática do exercício físico na redução da PA após o exercício em idosos hipertensos.

Resultados: O Método Canguru é uma prática segura e prazerosa para mães e familiares, além de propiciar vantagens sociais e psicoafetivas que se encontram no imaginário da institucionalização do método e na experiência das mães quando adequadamente apoiadas. Pode-se evidenciar significados dos sentimentos maternos de insegurança em decorrência do primeiro contato físico com o filho hospitalizado. No tocante a avaliação de sua prática clínica, este vem proporcionando melhor desenvolvimento do neonato e uma diminuição do tempo de internação hospitalar. Conclusão: O estudo apresenta relevância, pois a visão da percepção materna no que concerne este método faz com que este se firme como prática obrigatória em maternidades, tendo em vista seus benefícios para mãe e neonato. SUMMARY BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES:The number of patients requiring prolonged time on mechanical ventilation is increasing considerably in the intensive care unit (ICU). The objective of this study was to characterize the variability of methods and criteria used by physiotherapists to obtain weaning parameters in hospitals of Fortaleza. METHODS: After approval by the UNIFOR Ethics Committee, survey questionnaires were distributed among physiotherapists working in the ICU of three public and three private hospitals. Forty-four physiotherapists answered thirty-two multiple choice questions anonymously. RESULTS:The main results concerned parameters commonly evaluated by physiotherapists. A significant difference between hospitals was found regarding the rapid shallow breathing index and maximum inspiratory pressure, which are more often used in private hospitals, with a percentage of 100% and 89.5%, respectively. This study aimed to compare religiosity and religious coping (RC) between Brazilian and Dutch patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and to examine associations with physical and psychological health. Religiosity, RC, and physical and psychological health were cross-sectionally assessed in 161 patients with COPD (74 from Brazil and 87 from the Netherlands). Brazilian participants showed the greatest religiosity (p < 0.05), and weak correlations were observed between religiosity/RC and exercise capacity and quality of life (p < 0.05 for all analyses). Brazilian patients with COPD had higher religiosity than Dutch patients, and religiosity correlated with functional exercise capacity and quality of life.

Introduction: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is characterized by nigrostriatal degeneration, with dopaminergic depletion, and inflammatory and oxidative changes in the brain, leading to movement and coordination disorders. Recent studies have shown that treadmill training can be beneficial for these patients, but there is little evidence assessing the related blood parameters, such as oxidative stress and neurotrophin levels. Objective: Assess the influence of treadmill training for patients with Parkinson’s on gait, balance, Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) and reduced glutathione. Methods: Twenty-two patients with PD (Hoehn and Yahr II and III), older than 40 years, were randomly allocated to two groups: CG (n = 12) - drug treatment and IG (n = 10) - treadmill. Assessments related to functional capacity (quality of life, static and dynamic analysis of gait) and blood parameters such as GSH and BDNF were conducted before and after the eight-week intervention. Results: The demographic data of the groups were homogeneous in terms of age, sex, height, weight, time since disease onset, mini mental examination and the geriatric depression scale. Significant intergroup differences were found for the mental component summary, surface variation, latero-lateral oscillation, antero-posterior oscillation and mean velocity in the post-intervention period. The IG exhibited a strong association between BDNF and GSH, with statistically significant values. Conclusion: It was concluded that controlled treadmill walking improves static balance, quality of life and plasma BDNF and GSH levels in patients with PD.

Objectives:To evaluate the applicability of the bag squeezing and zeep maneuvers in mechanically ventilated patients.Methods: Twenty stable mechanically ventilated patients were studied. All patients were randomly allocated to either bag squeezing technique followed by zeep maneuver, or the reversed sequence. Each group crossed to the other sequence four hours later. Heart rate, respiratory rate, peripheral oxygen saturation and blood pressure were measured before, during and after each technique use. The suctioned secretions were collected and measured. The data were analyzed by pairwise statistical analysis for inter-group comparisons, and ANOVA for each group results analysis.Results: The heart rate was sig-nificantly increased, from 92.6 ± 18.3 bpm to 99.8 ± 18.5 bpm and the peripheral oxygen saturation significantly decreased from 96.9 ± 3.0% to 94.5 ± 4.3% during the bag squeezing maneuver, although the values remained within the normal range. No significant changes were seen for the zeep maneuver. Peripheral oxygen saturation during the maneuvers was found to change when the techniques were compared. No differences were found for the suctioned secretions amounts. Conclusion:The results suggest that both techniques are feasible as they cause few hemodynamic changes, and both are effective for bronchial secretions removal.
