SUMMARY:Brachial plexus neuropathies are common complaints among patients seen at orthopedic clinics. The causes range from traumatic to occupational factors and symptoms include paresthesia, paresis, and functional disability of the upper limb. Treatment can be surgical or conservative, but detailed knowledge of the brachial plexus is required in both cases to avoid iatrogenic injuries and to facilitate anesthetic block, preventing possible vascular punctures. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the topography of the infraclavicular brachial plexus fascicles in different upper limb positions adopted during some clinical procedures. A formalinpreserved, adult, male cadaver was used. The infraclavicular and axillary regions were dissected and the distance of the brachial plexus fascicles from adjacent bone structures was measured. No anatomical variation in the formation of the brachial plexus was observed. The metric relationships between the brachial plexus and adjacent bone prominences differed depending on the degree of shoulder abduction. Detailed knowledge of the infraclavicular topography of neurovascular structures helps with the diagnosis and especially with the choice of conservative or surgical treatment of brachial plexus neuropathies.
The World Health Organization since January 30, 2020, has declared the outbreak of acute respiratory disease Coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, as a public health emergency of international importance. As a score, all countries should be prepared to contain the spread of the virus through active surveillance with early detection, isolation and proper management of cases, investigation and notification. Therefore, the contingency plan for human infection with SARS-CoV-2 in the state of São Paulo defined that no Free Practice Certificate would be provided in the Port of Santos for vessels with any atypical report in its Maritime Health Declaration or medical logbook. The objective of verifying the existence of cases of infection by the new Coronavirus inside the vessels and to define the authorization of free practice of the vessel in the port of Santos, Brazil. This paper intends to present the application of risk analysis to the terminal and present the initial statistics on these cases in Porto by the first half of May 2020. The entry of a single case on the vessel would lead to the transmission to the entire crew. The analysis was justified by the following reasons: 1) passage of the vessel through Chinese ports; 2) reported health occurrences; 3) risk of the introduction of the disease in Brazil by the port of Santos. 4) establish the concept of risk to identify, classify and establish the degree of risk of the passenger terminalis.
