Summary Cerebrocortical necrosis (CCN) in sheep and young cattle The authors describe necrotic foci in the cerebral cortex of sheep and cattle. The first clinical signs are slight digestive disturbances, followed by blindness and nervous disturbances which end fatally. Yellowish‐red necrotic foci were present in the cerebral cortex, the CSF was increased and there was a perineural and pericapillary oedema as well as narrowing of the vessels. Endothelial cells were very prominent in the capillary lumen. Treatment with thiamine was ineffective when given later than 24 hours after the first symptoms. The results are discussed and compared with records in the literature.
