Design management, both in the academic and the corporate world, is being perceived as a strategic element for organizations. However, the role of professional designers and their competencies in design management are little explored. Thus, the goal of this text was to emphasize how competencies are related and joined in the design management sphere, identifying possible interrelationships. A systematic literature review of applied and exploratory nature was made, mapping the state of the art about competencies in design management. Virtual databases were used for seeking work, based on the keywords "design management" and "competence". Through this study, we identified the current state of the art of the topic, as well as the understanding of design management related to individual, collective, and organizational competencies. Emerging concepts related to design management and competencies, such as learning,
This paper describes a preliminary study into user experience of Brazilian Public Healthcare System-Sistema Unico de Saúde (SUS). It focuses on the accessibility of the information at three stages: information delivered by the doctor to the patient; the information available for the patient outside the clinic; and the type and amount of information the patient has to handle with meanwhile being diagnosed. This was based on a two-month ethnographic study of a patient diagnosed with liver cancer. The study takes into account the patient's condition, his age, and his partner's age, aiming to highlight challenges and gaps in the process, especially those extra demanding for elderly people. The results indicate that mapping the user experience and the key stages throughout the process are useful to outline and understand accessibility issues. The findings highlight opportunities in the process to design better interactions and ways to deliver information, considering elderly users needs.
The inclusion of design in corporate strategies has been a recurring research theme, and organizations are using it as strategic element for gaining competitive advantage in the long term. Thus, it becomes evident the need to manage design activities, making use of concepts related to competencies, learning, dynamic capabilities and other aspects. Therefore, this paper aims at investigating what experts think about design management and competencies, joints and intervenient factors in Brazilian fashion industry. In addition, this article aimed at knowing how design teams are structured and the relationship of these with the organization. The methodology was exploratory, qualitative, through in-depth interviews with ten designers working in Brazilian firms in the fashion industry and four specialists in fashion design. We identify phases and activities of design professional, which are decisive for the design management occurrence in enterprises in apparel industry, identifying the coworkers at each stage of this process.
Organizations have been demonstrating an interest to invest in design, perceiving it as a strategic element to obtain competitive advantage. Design must become an integral part of the corporate objectives, permeating all levels of corporate activities. For this reason, this paper aims to propose a framework based on concepts of competences by checking and assessing their applicability in design management in the apparel industry. This study included conducting a literature research, through the development of a systematic literature review as well as an exploratory study with a qualitative approach, through the use of in-depth interviews. This proposed framework was then exposed to the evaluation of specialists. After this assessment, adjustments were suggested, resulting in the final proposal of the framework for training and integration of individuals and teams in design management for companies in the apparel industry, supported by the concepts of competence. This framework identifies phases and design professional activities that are crucial for the occurrence of design management and are related to product development process, articulating the organizational strategies and the market research. By using the framework, we expect design to affect all organization levels, being present in the stages of the development process in a collection.
Design management has occupied a privileged place in debates related to the field of design and innovation in fashion industry. The apparel industry, in particular, presents a dynamic character, requiring constant updates on raw materials, changes in colors and textures, innovations and new product launches to follow trends in this industry. So, this paper aims to systematize the process of product development, identifying activities and actors involved in the product development process and mapping the determinant moments for the design management occurrence in context analysis. The methodology used was a systematic literature review and a multiple case study. As results, players involved have been identified as well the product development process and the intervenient factors in design management of companies imbricated in the apparel industry. We also have identified determinant moments for the occurrence of design management, throughout the product development process.
The Evidence-based Design (EBD) theory is already used in the healthcare sector in foreign countries, promoting organizational innovation. However, in Brazil, this theory is still not widespread and used in the healthcare area. Thus, this paper aims to demonstrate the current scenario of research on the topic of evidence-based design in the health area, exploring concepts, guidelines and possible applications. A systematic literature review was carried out in international databases with the words 'design', 'innovation' and 'healthcare', comprising papers published in the english language during the years 2002 to 2016. From the papers selected, we identified 11 studies that dealt with EBD, focusing on healthcare innovation. From the analysis of the data, the principles, guidelines and strategies of the EBD theory were mapped, as well as possible applications in healthcare organizations.
