Nos últimos anos registra-se marcado esforço de construção de modelos teórico-metodológicos para avaliar características do trabalho e efeitos à saúde dos trabalhadores. Dentre os modelos propostos, o Modelo Demanda-Controle tem alcançado destaque. Esse modelo recorta duas dimensões no ambiente laboral: as demandas psicológicas e o controle do trabalhador sobre o próprio trabalho. O Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ) é o instrumento proposto para medir essas dimensões do trabalho. Este estudo objetiva apresentar as bases teóricas e metodológicas do modelo demanda-controle, e discutir sua capacidade para identificar diferentes situações de trabalho no contexto brasileiro, a partir do uso do JCQ. Achados preliminares de dois estudos epidemiológicos, de corte transversal, são apresentados e discutidos. Os estudos avaliaram aspectos psicossociais do trabalho, utilizando o JCQ, e a saúde mental dos trabalhadores, usando o SRQ-20. Os resultados apontaram boa capacidade do modelo demanda-controle para identificar diferentes situações de risco à saúde mental dos trabalhadores. Aspectos relacionados à demanda psicológica do trabalho estavam mais fortemente associados a elevadas prevalências de distúrbios psíquicos menores do que os aspectos referentes ao controle.
A odontologia tem sido considerada uma profissão estressante, sendo freqüentemente associada a agravos à saúde. Realizou-se estudo de corte transversal com o objetivo de estimar a prevalência de dor musculoesquelética em cirurgiões-dentistas em 21 municípios da Bahia e identificar possíveis fatores de risco à ocorrência destas desordens. Participaram do estudo 130 profissionais, correspondentes a 80,2% da população total de cirurgiões-dentistas atuantes nos municípios estudados. Os profissionais foram visitados em seus consultórios e um formulário foi aplicado. Os resultados mostram prevalência de dor para parte superior das costas, pescoço, parte inferior das costas, ombro e mão/punho, considerando-se o lado direito; e prevalência de dor na parte superior das costas, pescoço e parte inferior das costas do lado esquerdo. Os resultados mostram a relevância do problema e podem contribuir para o debate desses distúrbios entre dentistas. Palavras-chave: Cirurgião-dentista. Distúrbios musculoesqueléticos. Os cirurgiões-dentistas compõem uma categoria em relaçãoà qual são referidos problemas no sistema musculoesquelético. Alterações,principalmente, nos membros superiores e coluna vertebral são freqüentesentre dentistas, muitas vezes se manifestando através de sinais e sintomasque podem interferir, negativamente, na capacidade funcional dessesprofissionais. O objetivo deste artigo é discutir a relação entre o trabalhoe essas desordens, cuja prevalência tem se elevado cada vez mais, e comoelas se manifestam naqueles que as adquirem.
